What diameter is the probe?

The probes diameter is .575 inches measured with a caliper, a little over 9/16 inch.

Has anyone tested RH accuracy? +/- 5% accuracy for humidity seems a rather large margin of potential error.

Just checked around: The best professional relative humidity meters measure +/-2%. Accuracy is best in the center of the range (50%) and falls off considerably at either end. These very accurate meters (such as the Cooper Atkins Model SRH77A) cost over five hundred dollars. So +/-5% is a great deal for about thirty dollars.

Is this item calibratable?

No! You can not calibrate. Do not buy! I am surprised this thing is still for sale. I returned mine a long time ago all it does is represent a bunch of numbers that are totally inaccurate.

The exterior probe is water proof, but the main portion of the thermometer with the display is not.
