DEFROST TIMER SAVES THE DAY AT LOW COST AND EASY INSTALLATION
I admit I don't write many reviews , I also admit I am no expert on refrigerators . I have an Amana that is around 15 years old . My fridge section went warm while my freezer section stayed very cold with actual patches of frost which I'd never seen in the freezer before . Several YouTube videos later I found that in all probability the defrost timer was shot , I researched the part and found one specialty parts company selling one that was over $80 , not bad if it would save the appliance and save me a technician visit , then I started researching part numbers on the internet and matching them to Amazon products , sure enough I found this part for around $11.00 . Two days later I am installing the part , which takes 30 seconds because it can only be mounted one way , literally no guess work ! I left my refrigerator empty for a week just in case , it is a whole lot colder and a whole lot quieter , I have my food back in it now and hope to get years more out of it . With the internet, YouTube and Amazon at our fingertips I would recommend researching before panicking and calling the repairman ...

How long will it last?
THAT is what is important to know...and NOT known after only a one week run. This same package of timer is available under different mfg names printed on the unit. I very much doubt they are all different or ANY of them better than another. I bought this timer because a seller of an OEM product that I had purchased was taking DAYS to get the item out their door. This unit works. Not quite as 'robust' a motor as the OEM unit, also nowhere close to the same price. A btw...it was the motor that quit on my original 50 year old fridge. A word of advice: The 'stuff' you read about being able to pin this timer to run on either compressor or clock time is NOT correct for this device. This timer comes with NO jumpers, NO pigtail. It is designed to plug directly into the harness/connector of the old fridge. In the case of this timer, it is the FRiDGE wiring that determines whether the timer runs on compressor time or clock time. My fridge (mfg by whirlpool) is wired such that the cold-control (the t-stat that turns the fridge on/off) directly feeds this timer. IF you happen to have a pig-tailed timer (motor power from pigtail YOU install) and configure it to run on 'compressor time' in a fridge wired as mine...the timer will run UNTIL it hits the defrost cycle. THEN it is OFF until you manually MOVE it. Not a good plan. It is critical to the success of a fridge being repaired (if a defrost timer is the problem) that one understands the differences in fridge cabinet wiring. A btw...but you will get MUCH more information about wiring for THIS timer if you look up the EIGHT hour timer that is also sold. THAT timer has much better connection/wiring information with it. NOT saying to buy an eight hour timer...just that the install info for THAT timer (in the comments section) is much more complete. I bought a six hour timer because that is what was in my fridge. Taking a chance on an EIGHT hour timer working, NOT freezing up the evap coil, was a poor choice for the trouble it takes to get the fridge apart to be SURE all the ice gets out of the coil enclosure if it DOES freeze up.

Made a DIY repair possible
Works perfectly and saved us a lot of money over replacing the refrigerator or having it repaired professionally. The hardest part of this DIY project was figuring out that this little gizmo is what needed to be replaced and where it is located on the refrigerator. After that, installing the new one was a breeze.

Fits, but Stil had to manually defrost Coils
So it fit and it looks just like the old one. But fridge coils still froze up. Could be bad heater or maybe timer doesn't work, tho it does seem to shut the refrigerator off occasionally. It's an ancient refrigerator so I guess for 11 dollars it's worth a try. It's only frozen up once since last "hairdryer defrost" so we'll see it it happens again. Or if I can upgrade my star count.

Have had this unit for a while now. So far its working well. It is a bit "ticky" but then so was the original. Its not annoying, just there. One could likely go completely silent with a more expensive fully electronic version but this is just fine for our old Harvest Gold 1970s Admiral fridge.
