Miniature robot, minions galore!
Not what I expected. I thought it was a DIY for beginners, but it's more for kids who have the hang of the techniques. You will need tools and other pieces to make this and some are not included. Assembling a toy may always be frustrating, but it's very educational and the fun of playing with it comes after. I brought this for my 10 year old kid, because we're a family of geeks and nerds and playing with Legos gets boring for him sometimes. So, he was thrilled to build this and with experienced assistance, it was fun to put it together. The assembling was more fun than playing with it. Being that it's solar powered, you have to wait until it's charged by light. Like anything charging, it's going to take awhile. This robot is so cute when it's powered on and working. He played with the robot for a short time until putting it up so it wouldn't get destroyed. He asked me for more so he could make a miniature team of robots. I have a Dr. Frankenstein on my hands.

Good deal for the price, if you're careful putting it together
My 5-year-old wanted a "robot that transforms" and when he saw this one, his heart was set on it. (We told him this wasn't a remote-controlled robot and he was fine with that.) We've had it for a week now, built 3 of the different models and he still loves it, so I've given it 5 stars. He's fascinated how it works off the power of the sunshine. Assembly mostly should be done by an adult, but he enjoys watching and helps with the stickers and the bigger pieces. I enjoyed assembling the gearbox. Once the gearbox is together and all the models have been built once, switching between models is simpler. He may be able to do it himself before too long. I do worry a little about the fragility of the wires. It won't last forever, but it's fun. I'd say it's a good deal for the price.

Cute dino, but not moving so far.
Bought this for my son. Took a while to put together -40 minutes to an hour. It's small, about three inches tall. Easy to put together for an adult, my son is 6 and he was not able to do anything but assist me. The one thing I found in the directions is that it looks like you should put a wheel gear thingy on the outside of the main body- according to the directions, but I had to remove it to get the legs on the trex to fit. So far we have had cloudy days and it does not move at all. We are hoping for a sunny day soon to see if that makes a different.

Great for 8 year old
This is a great kit, similar but less complex than the lizard made by the same company. My son took about 1 hour to build this. It is about the size of your hand. It doesn't transform like we think a transformer does; you have to take it apart and rebuild it to its new form. But, I think that is better as it adds more tinker time. We live in California and just had to walk outside into direct sun and it started working. No charging delay at all for us. It stops in shadows which really helps lessons on solar energy. This worked for us inside but only on the window sill in the sun. The pieces are sturdy quality too. Only reason I picked 4 stars instead of 5 was that it was super fast to build, which some folks may prefer.

Runs in direct sunlight
Pretty good bribing robot for a 6yo. I basically put it together, but he helped pop some of the pieces out and clean them up. We've disassembled/reassembled once, which worked fine. It only runs in direct sunlight, although he is enamored enough with it that he plays with it often inside anyway.

which I enjoyed doing. We haven't figured it out gettinv it ...
My 4-year old loves this toy! I had to put it together, but he was able to help when I showed him where to put things. And it was so exciting to take it out in the sun and see it work! It does require some concentration to put all the small pieces together, which I enjoyed doing. We haven't figured it out gettinv it to work in ndoors under any kind of lighting, but regardless, we love it. Just bought a second one as a gift for a friend.

Not worth the money, doesn't work.
This toy was horrible. My son and I put it together according to the directions and it didn't work. We took it apart, left the solar panel in the sun to charge, rebuilt the robot, still didn't work. It was very frustrating and I have a very disappointed boy. Save your money, time, and aggravation.

Great inspiration for an aspiring engineer!
Instructions are a bit hard to read but a little help and most kids would be able to put it together. Smaller than you would expect and you have to be careful to cut off the little tabs of plastic (it comes in sheets of parts like a model car). Kids loved it so much they used their own money to order higher end robotics kits.
