I ride on the train and have it in the seat by the isle. On the bus I also put it beside me in the seat. I take up two seats but it works!

Sorry, but I had not heard of the possibility of using magnets. In my experience trying Velcro, I feel sure that you would need a number of magnets if the contents of the shopper varied. I use quality hiking boot laces (red and with some elasticity) that cross over the flap and tie in a neat bow. I do like the shopper and would buy it again..

can this trolley be hung on a supermarket trolley?

Would it be possible to use this on an esculator?

I haven't tried it, but I would think so. If you tilt the cart backwards up a flight of steps the front wheels come off the floor making it a 2 wheeler. There's a demo on youtube for this,so should be easier to use on an escalator. Good luck.
