The Most Enchanting Of All Night Time Adventures.
I remembered vaguely these books with such fondness that I bought them for my daughter when she was a baby and she promptly tried to rip the pages 🤦🏻♀️Jump forward to 6 years later and we are captivated by them. I don’t know whether she, her 4 year old brother or I love them the most but our nightly 2 chapters extends to more most evenings and I’ve been known to finally head downstairs 3 hours later when I finally tear myself away. For me, I take so much more from these books than I did as a child. I have so much empathy for the characters. I have laughed, despaired and struggled not to cry as I’m reading them. They are beautifully written and the criticism of her writing, that Enid Blyton received later in life, cannot possibly have come from anyone who understood or even found the magic in her literature.I am so grateful to have the opportunity to revisit these amazing times and places with my two favourite little people.Note to others though, do not make the mistake of promising your 6 year old a midnight feast in the half term holidays as that’s what the girls in Malory Towers are planning. Cue far too much excitement to sleep, much calling you up and down the stairs and absolute devastation when you finally cancel said feast as this has far surpassed your fun plans. We did have chocolate cake and ice cream wrapped in blankets at 11pm after all. But it took what was clearly my biggest parenting mistake yet to get to that point.Picture attached, attending World Book Day as Sally Hope, complete with a tennis racquet repurposed from an Amazon box and a health certificate for Matron 😂💖.

Good stories
Mallory Towers books are ideal for an 8 year old - straightforward reading with gripping story lines for young readers. Very pleased with the set of books.

GREAT MEMORIES GREAT NEW STORIES TOO! Just a slight 'But'...
It was so exciting when i decided to rebuy my beloved old school stories again, only to find six more books in the series by a different author, so I ordered the box set at once! In three days I have nearly got through all 12 books!Pamela Cox is pretty good at keeping the same spirit and even language of the original series, even though I think she was not quite as lively and punchy as Blyton and there was less funny dialogue. It's clear she is herself a big fan of the characters etc. But it was very exciting how she brought back some old favourite characters into the story whilst adding plenty of new ones. I particularly loved the mysteries she brought forth, myself trying to wrack my brains at the answers ahead of time!!My only two gripes are that there are NO line drawings AT ALL in any of the books like my previous old paperbacks, and the only other gripe is that I felt the chapters were a little too long, and could have been broken down into smaller, punchier chapters like Enid Blyton did.But on the whole I recommend it wholeheartedly and it's a wonderful trip down memory lane.Jolly Hockey sticks lol
