Great for getting root access!
I recently acquired a semi-broken router that has a UART connector on it, and I needed to talk to it. This device makes it easy to talk to anything that has TTL or UART. It's super easy as it's plug and play! Just plug the cables into the right pins on the adapter, then plug it into your computer. It's worked with all of the devices I've tried it with, which makes it super functional. I would definitely recommend this high-quality product to anyone who needs a direct serial connection.

It works... what else needs to be said?
It didn't fail me. Worked with no failures, time after time (due to me being newbie, I had to flash and re - flash and erase and re-flash a dozens of time).

Shrink wrap was too long on usb plug on mine.
Worked perfect after trimming shrink wrap back from USB port. It was keeping the adapter from plugging in all the way. It was so close it would power up but not communicate

Works, could be nicer.
I used this serial converter to un-brick a router I had screwed up. It took a bit of work, but the product works. 4 stars because the cables could be nicer, and the shrink wrap kind of prevents you from being able to use the dongle. Not the easiest to use, but you get what you pay for.

Works with a Raspberry Pi Pico
I used this module with one of the UARTs on a Raspberry Pi Pico. To do this, connect only the 3.3V pin and not the 5V pin. The usual setting for communication with a host computer is 9600 baud, eight data bits, one stop bit, and no parity.

Do not buy
Like others, I used this to program a few devices over serial. Worked fine a year ago when I last used it, but hardware was not recognized by multiple Windows or Linux computers. I spent a lot of time thinking it was a software/driver issue but ultimately decided the hardware had failed. This seems to be a common theme with these. I will be looking for a different one based on a genuine FTDI chip, not a knock off that fails after very light use

Consigliato!

The clear heat shrink around the pcb extended too far over the usb plug and had to be trimmed back before it would go into the usb port. Once that was done the device was automatically detected and the proper drivers were loaded by the kernel. It worked as expected on a linux machine using: minicom -D /dev/USB0

This is a great bit of kit. I use these to replace the Prolific USB programing cables supplied with most Chinese handheld radios. There are so many fake Prolific cables out there it's not worth the hassle. So these 2102's were substituted and they work fine, every time.
