Excellent cone to prevent getting to hot spots
This has been perfect for our lab/collie mix dog. She's about 48lbs and we got the Large. Fits her perfectly so she can't get at the hot spots we're trying to have treated during this allergy season. It's a little more expensive than some of the other cones, but so far it has been durable, she's comfortable and has been able to sleep in it fine, and the velcro is STRONG, so she's not able to just toss it off. Be forewarned - the velcro is very durable...she had her head on my husband's feet at one point, and got stuck...the velcro stuck to his socks. Which for entertainment purposes was hilarious, but it is something to watch out for. Like anything, dogs shouldn't be unsupervised. But all in all, worth every penny!

Prevents the licking and is comfortable for dog
This cone is great. It is soft, so when my dog bumps into walls or my legs, it doesn’t scrape the wall or hurt me like the original plastic cone from the vet did. The stiff plastic inserts keep my dog from licking and scratching.

This e-collar works well for our pug
At one time or another dog owners will probably have to humiliate their dog by making them wear an "Elizabethan Collar" to keep them from scratching or licking surgical wounds. Our pug Spanky wore one, of course, after he got neutered and did quite well with it. But I hated the bulky plastic design. When recently we decided to get another one to prevent from licking some spots of irritated skin, I opted for this Comfy Cone. It looked a bit easier to use and not to mention, more comfortable. The Small Comfy Cone is designed for pets with necks measuring 10 to 14 inches around and 5.5 inches from neck. It just barely fits around my pugs neck. It has 3 Velcro straps on either side of the cone as well as a Velcro tab. With Spanky, we use the Velcro tab and press it on the first strip of Velcro on the other side. It also has little tabs which enable you to fit it to the animal's collar, but we don't use those. We only use this collar for short periods of time when we notice him starting to lick his tender spots. It's quick and easy to put on, so it works really well for us in this situation. The collar is also available in medium, large, and extra large sizes. The length from the neck is just perfect. It's not as long as the plastic E-collar he got from his vets. Spanky was always bumping into everything with his "satellite dish" as we called it. With his Comfy Collar, he doesn't bang into as many things. On the negative side, this collar, totally blocks their peripheral vision. I would advise using with caution outside of the house for that reason. Another nice feature is this cone folds flat so it's easily stored. I ended up throwing away his first plastic Elizabethan collar because it was too bulky to easily store. Spanky also is able to take naps with it on as it flattens out a bit when he lays down. The collar is easy to clean. I wipe it off on the inside with a damp towel. My one gripe is that the Velcro strips are dog hair magnets. Pugs are notorious shedders and so, of course, the Velcro strip is covered with Spanky's hair. The good news is that he doesn't have longer hair like a poodle or other breeds, so I don't have to worry about his hair getting stuck in there and then ripping it out when I take off the collar. Overall, a very good product and a better choice than a plastic E-collar.

Comfortable for sleeping, great protection, and easy to use
Because our 21 pound miniature schnauzer got a little scrape on his leg that he wouldn't let heal, we had to make the unpopular decision to cone our little guy. We got him a medium comfy cone and it was a perfect fit to protect him from himself and his impassioned licking. He wore the comfy cone for about a month, had no problems sleeping with it on, and very few issues (addressed below) with it. While our pup has used the inflatable travel pillow-like "cone, but not a cone" in the past, because of the spot where he was licking that the travel pillow wouldn't block, we knew he needed a real cone this time. Our dog LOVES sleeping in very human-like poses - on his back, resting in a pillow, passed out in a seated position in front of the TV - so we knew that a hard cone wouldn't work well for him. While he didn't love it when we put on the comfy cone, he didn't hate it. He had no problems sleeping with it at all and it did the job to protect him. He could kind of eat and drink with it on (the struggle was very real), but the sleeping and protection made it totally worth it for us and him. Our dog occasionally buries his food and water first with his imagination, which was kind of a hilarious dump truck-like disaster sometimes with the cone. It made his cone smell like dog food and he got a questionable amount of food into his mouth because he's not very good at negotiating angles or figuring out alternate routes in general. It's definitely possible to eat with the comfy cone on because he did it many times over the course of the month looking like a possessed and hungry funnel, but your mileage may vary. In dog world, I think of the cone like a medical device. The relative rating is more about the function than anything. For people, if you broke your arm and got a cast, it'd be tough to ever give a cast 5 stars because you're pretty annoyed the whole time, but if it did the job like it was supposed to and did it well in a sucky situation, that's pretty much a 5 star product. That's how we thought of the comfy cone. I think this is a great product overall, but here are some of the key points that I can think of: USAGE - Because we attach our leash to our dog's collar, we didn't weave his collar through the cone. It was a lot faster and more reasonable to velcro it around his head separately from his collar. - We only had our dog wear his comfy cone in the house. Because it's so opaque, it was pretty disorienting for him to wear on walks and made him walk really weird. We gave up on that very quickly. Luckily, it only takes a second to take this off and put it back on. GOOD STUFF - Easy to put on and take off your dog's head using the velcro. It's seriously simple, even if you don't weave it through your dog's collar. - Velcro is a lot more secure than you'd think. Our pup only wriggled himself out of the cone one time in a month, which was probably because we put it on too loosely. - Dogs can really sleep with in it on. Our guy really didn't care. He passed out like a little portable satellite dish . - Material doesn't scratch the dog's neck. - Protects really well as long as your dog doesn't have a really long nose. - Pretty easy to store. We went on a trip and had to bring the comfy cone with us - no big deal. - Outer material on edge is a little reflective. We didn't really have our guy wear his cone outside after the first couple days, but it was kind of cool to see. - If you get a medium size and up, you can wear it on your neck and make some funny jokes. Your dog will appreciate the shared experience. NOT SO GOOD STUFF - Dogs are not big fans of the velcro sound. We went with the band-aid "TEAR IT OFF AS FAST AS YOU CAN" method instead of drawing out the sounds for best results. - Because it's made of similar material to a winter jacket, it will pick up about 25% of smells. Our pup is pretty stinky and the cone didn't get really bad. However, if you have your dog wear the cone on walks, it will probably get stinky because the cone will be all up in the dirt, brushing up on plants with pee on them, etc. - Because it's opaque, your dog has no peripheral vision. There will be some disorientation in the beginning, but our guy calmed down pretty fast. - Like any cone, if you crate your dog, it will be an adventure for them to get in wearing this comfy cone. - If you have a lot of stairs or doggy stairs in your house, there will be some missteps where your dog hits his face on the stairs and gets really discouraged. - Like any cone, eating may be a mess. - It's not a perfect circle. Ours would sometimes end up as a triangle, sometimes a square, but it always did the job!

HIGH QUALITY, DURABILITY and most importantly COMFORT
my dog was chewing his butt/tail end and giving himself a reoccurring yeast infection there, making himself completely bald with red, irritated skin & he smelled like a corn tortilla. he's 3, so has not yet worn a cone, so we bought this one because we knew the plastic kind would be miserable. now, i have a VERY good boy, and he does just about anything i put him through without a fuss so it was expected he would handle the cone with little issue, your mileage may vary by dog how well they tolerate it. he only wears the cone at night which is when he would chew himself. this cone is GREAT! i purchased the XL for my 95lb GSD/rottweiler/lab mix with a very thick neck (22") i was concerned the XL would be too small, but it's adjustable and fits him well. it's durable, flexible, my dog can still sleep in his normal positions, it really doesn't phase him at all. can still eat/drink and it keeps him from chewing his hind end which is why we ordered it, but it will be useful in the future if he needs to wear a cone for other reasons, highly recommend.

I REALLY Wanted to Like This But...
We have a 45# American Staffordshire Terrier who had an allergic reaction to something near her inner thighs while on a camping trip and would continuously lick the area to the point where she eventually opened up a small wound that became infected on one of her inner thighs. We found the Comfy Cone and thought she would much prefer this on her neck than the rougher edged plastic cones. The first time we put the cone on her she freaked out due to the fact that it is obviously not see through like most of the plastic cones thus it took lots of getting used to before she figured out what was going on. It took her all of three hours before she realized she could smush her head against things to get the cone to squish down enough to poke her head out of it. Thankfully, the cone was still supportive enough that she couldn't reach around to lick the medication off of the infected cut. It took her less than one week to figure out that if she REALLY rubbed her head against a wall or a chair she could completely turn the cone inside out and thus could fully expose her head. She did this while we were gone one day and it bent the little black supporters inside of the cone to the point that they don't help much now and she is able to flex the cone enough to reach the area we don't want her to reach. So, we just put a diaper on her to keep her away from the no-no area until it heals. We still put the cone on when we aren't at home because it does keep her from chewing off the diaper, but now she has two embarrassments instead of just one. She's not a happy puppy at the moment. This may work for some dogs but for the more intelligent (or at least the more tenacious) and depending on the area you are trying to keep the dog away from, you may be better off with a plastic cone. The biggest PRO to this cone is that it is more comfortable for the dogs to sleep in, so there is that.

A great alternative to rigid plastic e-collars but. . .
This is a great alternative to plastic e-collars, but I wouldn't use this for weeks as the only e-collar for my pet. This is a good solution for dogs recovering post-op, or for pets with skin problems like hot spots or licking granulomas. But you should provide a second, lighter e-collar option occasionally when you will be present to watch your pet. Pros: * Sturdy, good quality, stands up to heavy use * Strong enough to resist bending of edges, more rigid than flexible nylon-fabric e-collars * Long enough to prevent licking of wounds (follow manufacturer's measuring guide) * Collar loops allow it to be attached to pet's own collar, prevents removal * Washable fabric stands up to cleaning, food and water * Fast removal, adjustment using Velcro strip * Manufacturer provides protective Velcro cover strip to keep exposed Velcro clean * Reflective strip edging is night-time safety feature (though consider removing for walks) * Length adjustable, can be folded back for eating/drinking when owner present Cons: * May be longer (deeper in small-to-medium sizes) than desirable for smaller dogs; measure carefully* * Slightly heavier than other e-collar materials; may be fine on larger dogs, but monitor smaller dogs' use * Narrower cone angle than normal e-collars, restricts side airflow if worn long-term (see reviews re ear problems) * Solid fabric can limit pet's vision, so consider removing for brief walks or substitute a clear collar * Less adjustable in outer width than cloth or plastic e-collars since Velcro determines closure * Length may make drinking more difficult when leaving pet alone, but can be folded back for eating/drinking when owner present In summary, the Comfy Cone e-collar is a comfortable alternative if your pet is an aggressive chewer or licker of wounds, hot spots and needs longer protection. Just be prepared to give your pet breaks from wearing it (monitored during walks outside?) or have a second lighter fabric or plastic collar on-hand for those times (like the VetOne e-collars, as backups). Long-eared dogs might need breaks from wearing it long-term to prevent ear infections (as noted in other reviews) since its shape is long and narrow. But it resists the abuse a strong-willed dog can give to more lightweight e-collars, and should be usable for years, if cared for. See the customer photos here of different pets using this collar to help you decide if it will work on your cat or dog. *Note: the manufacturer's measuring guide says to measure your pet from neck to tip of nose to decide which size will work best; ideally, it should be longer than nose length to protect the pet's wound. SIZE CHART in inches: Small 12.5 cm = 4.9 inches; Medium 20 cm= 7.8 inches; Large 25 cm = 9.8 inches; Extra Large 30 cm = 11.8 inches (refers to depth of cone) Example of a second clear e-collar for back-up use with Comfy Cone: Cardinal Laboratories E-Collar, Large Cardinal Laboratories Pet Botanics E-Collar, XXL, Clear

Best cone ever!
Honestly I laughed until my eyes watered when i put this on my poor corgi. I got the medium XL due to the fact she has a long face and a long tongue I wanted to make sure that tongue got no where near anything. After I got my laughter under control I noticed Leia didn't really seem to mind the cone but she had no real perception of how close she was to anything so she was walking into everything. Thankfully since is the cone is nice and flexible it didn't dig into her neck or hurt her in anyway. I had a horrible time finding a cone that had the dimensions I needed but comfy cone had me covered. She had to wear the cone due to being put a medication by the vet that she ended up having an allergic reaction to. Leia has a ton of allergies to begin with but this put her over the edge for itchy spots and she viciously attacked them with tongue. Hence why she ended up in the cone of shame at least this one was comfy. The best thing Leia learned to do while wearing the cone was come up behind her brother and push it into his butt to scare him. The cone worked wonders for her. I only had to let her wear it for 3 or 4 hours before she figured out that she only had to wear it if she licked. I'm proud to say she hasn't needed to wear it again. Every time she would start to lick I would grab the comfy cone and tell her if she didn't stop licking she would need to wear it. I also have another corgi name Trooper who has allergies and a love for licking his feet during flare ups. I now ask him if he'd like to wear the cone or stop licking. He has opted to stop licking which is fine with me. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a cone for there dog. Leia didn't seem to mind it and was able to move around and relax with it on. Due to the length she was not able to eat or drink with it on so I would remove it for that. The cone is super sturdy and seems like it would be easy to clean.
