This heavy duty back pack was a great choice! I use a pretty large old 17" laptop for work and although it doesn't fit into the designated laptop section of the bag, it fits just fine into the secondary compartment. I use the laptop compartment to hold a folder for paperwork and it would be totally fine holding any other, more modern 17" laptop i'm sure. This bag also meets my requirements for extra compartments - I can take clothes in the main compartment (enough for a couple of days), and use the smaller side and front compartments for chargers, toiletries and tools. I travel for work around 80% of my time on planes and to various sites. I have been using this for a couple of months now and it shows no signs of wear at all. The straps feel rugged and the plastic-coated base of the bag gives you extra protection from dirty floors and puddles etc. Overall, I am very happy with this product and highly recommend investing the extra money in purchasing this bag. It also looks waaay cooler than all the nerdy massive bags out there, lets be totally honest! Treat yo'self!

Durable, spacious, and very well made
I purchased this bag to use for travel at work. This bag holds SO. MUCH. STUFF. I routinely carry the following in this bag - laptop, charging cord, mouse, multiple flash drives, a 3 inch binder, 1 multi subject notebook, several 1 subject notebooks, day planner, multiple clipboards, several post it pads, and a multitude of pens and highlighters. This bag fits all of it with room to spare. I carry this bag daily and travel frequently with it. After 4 months of use the bag shows no signs of wear. The bag has padded straps and wears comfortably. There are plenty of pockets in various sizes to keep everything compartmentalized. The material is thick and durable. I am absolutely pleased with the performance of this bag.

Great pack, recommended
I’ve had this bag for 3-1/2 years with very little sign of wear. Of that time it sat for about a year, so I’d say I have about 2 years of daily use on it and it looks great. Use it for work and travel. Plenty of space when needed, good organization but not overdone with micro management pockets. Water bottle pockets work good for bottles or power cords. I see poeole complaining that it doesn’t stand up by itself but mine does (balance your load better?). I cut all of the really lame shiney and jingly zipper pulls off and replaced with paracord pulls, 1000 times better. (Hey Carhartt, great bag, get away from those flashy pulls). I have a pretty decent pack collection, 511 you name it, and this has been my daily for years. There isn’t much about this bag I’d change. Maybe the only change I would have besides the zipper pulls are the fact that the main pocket is bigger than what I need. Not the bags fault though more of just my loadout.

Best backpack I’ve owned
What a great backpack has survived 4+ years being thrown around a paper mill and still going strong highly recommend. Only sign of wear is on the bottom but nothing major.

Absolutely my favorite
At this point, I'd consider myself a backpack expert. I've owned so many it's not even funny. I guess I just have a thing for backpacks. It's by far my favorite kind of luggage. Anyways, it is VERY well built. It also has the perfect amount of pockets and compartments in the perfect places. They offer a cheaper one which yes, it's nice, but very basic. This one has a place for everything, and once you learn it, you find very quickly how efficient and convenient it really is. This thing beats out much more expensive packs out there. The only thing I'd change is to add one of those straps that goes across your chest keeping the main straps nice n snug. Still, 5 stars all day long.

Average looks. A tad on the small side. Hopefully the durability makes up for it.
Just received this backpack after ordering it for my sons first year in high school next fall. His backpacks get destroyed. High on the abuse factor, Cram, jam, and slam. He regularly hauls 35 lbs+. Upon opening it and examining this pack, it seemed a bit on the small side. Small in all 3 dimensions. Approximately only 3 inches thick when shipped. When expanded, it was not so impressive either. Also a bit on the ordinary side. A little disappointing cosmetically. And I am very familiar with Carhartt products, having owned them for many years. I do think it will last, but I am not certain if it will make it through year one. Initially I had hoped for a pack lasting his entire high school career. The shoulder straps are substantial and comfortable, as is the back padding. The laptop pouch is just that. Up against the back padding. There are 2 side compartments, and they zip closed completely. No mesh on the outside. Side pouches are good for pencils, etc. The zippers are ykk, and work fine, just smaller pulls than I had pictured. The main compartment(books) is not that big at all. 3 or 4 books max. There is also another compartment behind that, with mesh, spring clip, small compartments, etc. On the outside rear, there are 2 horizontal compartments. Again good for smaller miscellaneous items. There is also a velour stash pocket, or phone pocket, on the top in between compartments with its own small zipper. The material on the bottom looks and feels like cheap vinyl, but Carhartt says its a super abrasion resistant material, so I'm going with them on this one. I almost ordered the standard work pack, but that was even smaller than this pack. I have an LL Bean rucksack for myself, and for the price, id recommend the rucksack. Completely different animal though. This is for school, not hiking. We shall see.

Great bag!
I bought this Carhartt backpack to replace a Ogio that I had for over 5 years. I was going to go with another Ogio but to many of their bag have a egg shaped and don’t sit well on the ground. I rolled the dice on the Carhartt and I haven’t been disappointed. It fits well under a 737 airplane seat and that was very important as I travel heavy for work. I love the bottom being rubberized! Plenty of space for my thick 15 inch gaming laptop, iPad, packable rain jacket or a light sweater, a change of clothes if I need, etc... all without being overly big. The gold zippers are depicted more shiny in than they actually are which was a relief. It would have been nice if there was outer loops for hooking stuff and if the laptop compartment was suspended (the padding is adequate). Over all it’s a great, non-flashy bag.

Most durable and fantastic backpack made!
This is the strongest and best made backpack I’ve ever owned. I’ve taken this with me daily for the last 2 years and other than a dime sized hole on the bottom, it is in perfect condition. Actually better than when purchased now that it’s broken in. Rain, snow, sleet, and hail have tried to weather this bag and came up embarrassed. Not one zipper is broken or out of place. If you are considering a new bag for your kids, sports, or literally whatever, this is a fantastic choice.
