The Chain Reaction Collar from Ruffwear is a martingale-style collar combining TubeLok webbing and steel chain for durability and strength. The limited cinch steel chain provides audible correction cues for controlled leash activities. The single-piece, anodized aluminum V-ring provides an alternative leash attachment point for a non-cinch option and the Chain Reaction features low-light visibility with reflective trim.

Dogs give it many tail wags
Our older dog has the official color of blue, so our younger dog got the official color of red (yes, my husband wanted each dog to have their own color). Once our younger dog finally grew out of puppy sizing and into her full size (she's an 80lb german shepherd), we got this in large size. I've got it on it's smallest size and when the chain is pulled tight it's very tight on her neck. The rest of the time, it's comfortably loose.I do like that the tags are separate from the main chain area, and it's thin but quite sturdy. As soon as I pick up this color and it jingles she comes running and can't wait to put it on. If your dogs enjoy wrestling matches in the master bedroom, you may want to take this off at bedtime. The nice bright reflective strip really reflects well at night. Our dog is quite dark, and it can be pretty hard to spot her on a dark night, but the reflective strip lights right up. She's also got the red roamer leash (belt leash very handy when walking two german shepherds), and the red harness/pack combo.

Just awesome.
This collar is great for my Alaskan Husky. It allows me to have much more immediate response when walking, without actually choking him like a full choke collar would do. Another great benefit is eliminating his ability to back out of a collar as it tightens just enough to prevent it.This is my 2nd chain reaction, the first had a great 5 month run, until another dog chewed it off of him (jealous?), excellent quality, colors do not fade, even with salt water, and the tag-quick attach works well.If you are looking for a collar to give yo a big less tugging, that looks great, and will hold up well, this is it!

Dont use in salt water!!
I really liked this collar at first. My dog has a small head and can easily slip out of collars if he gets scared of something so I needed a martingale. I love ruffwear products and the collar fit and looked great. One trip to the beach and the chain was rusted though. I figured he'd be alright swimming with it and then rinsing it with fresh water on our way out, as I had done this with other metal collars / choke chains and they never rusted. By the time we got to the dog washing station it was already rusted and staining his white coat a nasty brown. For the price, I would have thought it would at least last a few trips without rusting. I tried a few things to get the rust off, but couldn't so this collar has been sitting in a drawer for 6 months after only being used for a few days. If you don't plan on going near salt water at all this is probably an alright collar for you. The other metal components of the collar didn't rust, so a non martingale one would probably be ok, but Mr. Skinnyhead would slip right out of it.

Not great for smaller dogs
I usually love Ruffwear products, but this collar (which I ordered in a small for my 15-pound Terrier Mix) did not live up to my expectations. Although, the size of the collar itself was fine, the chain weight and size was way too large (and heavy) for a smaller dog. Again, I ordered the small, but the chain would probably be more acceptable for a larger dog (upwards of 40 pounds). The quality of this collar, as with all Ruffwear products, was great - this was just not what I expected for a size small collar.

Good quality & Functional
I really like this collar. It looks nice, and as far as martingale collars go, it doesn't continue to get bigger over time (some all fabric ones I've used before needed constant adjustment). I really love the separate spot for tags, so we no longer accidentally hook the leash to the tag ring and lose them and him. My favorite part about this style of collar is that It goes on and comes off easily. The only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is that my large black & white dog has a very large patch of white on the underside of his neck and the chain from this collar (he only wears it when we go out for walks) has turned his fur grey:(( Also, please note, if you haven't seen this collar in person, the fabric is very thin,... it's still very durable, though.

Great transition collar
This collar is great! I got it to transition from a prong; he still needs corrections now and then and this is perfect as the metal sound does a good job distracting him from focusing on things that he shouldn't be while we're walking. It's also great for running since it doesn't dig into him like the prong can if I get ahead of him/he veers off. I can leave it on him all day (he is not crated) and it does not snag on anything. It is easy to adjust if I need to make it looser or tighter and I like the fact that it has a "dead" ring on it, too, if I don't want to use the martingale-type feature. The tag silencer is also great.

The humane alternative for training collars.
A wonderful and more humane way to train and walk your dog. I've been training my dog on walks with this martingale and it works fantastic. To slip on and off I tighten it all the way (my dog has a small neck but large head) and slip on. To take off I just adjust it so it's loose and it comes right off. It's a great and more humane alternative to prong/pinch/full choke collars. Another name of this collar is a half choke but it's technically called a martingale. When it's not engaged (Dog walking on a loose lead) there is no pressure on the neck and throat. When it's engaged (Dog pulling on lead) It spreads out the pressure on his neck. Another great feature of this collar is you can choose it to be a flat collar or a martingale. I don't recommend having this collar on 24/7 because it does not have a quick release. Do NOT use this collar as a tie out. It does NOT have a quick release your dog can get hurt if you use this as a tie out. But for walks and training this collar works awesome. It also prevents your dog from backing out of his collar (when fitted properly). We switch out tags from our tag collar to this collar for walks. So my dog is only wearing one collar at a time.Overall I highly recommend this collar. It's thick, durable, looks great, reflective, and easy to clean. For reference my dog is 80lbs! He's a husky/gsd mix. This collar has held up for well over a year.

It's ok the material isn't what I expected and certainly thiner than expected it's more like seatbelt material certainly seems strong enough whether it's worth the extra compared to cheaper ones isn't evident yet workmanship seems ok but I purchased this thinking it would be night and day better than a basic no brand one and it isn't. I've now ordered one from Strongstuff for dogs which having seen and felt is miles and miles better with a lifetime warranty and hand made in the uk.

The chain on the collar rusted after a couple of weeks wear so I have returned it. I am going to get a red dingo collar which my other dog has used for 4 years with no wear/quality issues
