Original Eros DVD Review: Love this film - I give this movie 5 stars without hesitation. It's got everything - action, romance, stunning cinematography, song and dance numbers, love every moment of it, flawless. Not familiar with Bollywood films, but absolutely loved this. A new favourite film for me. Ranveer Singh is ace - a very cool and sexy man, and shows Westerners a thing or two about how you pull off singin', dancin' and still look super macho. Deepika Padukone also seriously cool as a kickass warrior lady. Priyanka Chopra excellent, and both women perform with great dignity in what could otherwise be a tawdry affair. Singh's character, Bajirao, also shown genuinely torn apart by his conflicting commitments to duty, family and his true love Mastani. I had to buy this from India - Bollywood is massive in its own right but would love it to be embraced more by the West. Anyone who can't get past the singing and general flamboyance of Hindi popular cinema needs to embrace it, and this is a perfect place to start. Fast paced and utterly absorbing, despite the length, I would recommend to anyone. Review: Great Blu ray - Great Blu ray! I had my reservations about the sound when I ordered this as I was after Dolby Atmos sound - this blu ray did not disappoint at all! Perfect Atmos sounds and the video is great as well. Arrived a day late but I guess that was due to the weekend.

Scene stupende, come danze e fotografia. Consigliatissimo.

Very much suited to my home screen width of 12 feet. Such movies are meant to be seen in 150+ inch large screens. A fine alternative to watching it in modern movie theaters which is the best. Everything was first rate and is very much crowd pleasing for Indians. The movie was long (150 minutes), and the ending highly predictable. The dance sequences were fabulous and I will watch them again. Otherwise it will be collecting dust in my library until relatives show up and demand (or request) for it to be shown which might happen soon.

Excellent movie; very well done - an instant classic for sure. It truly is no wonder that this film and actors won so many awards...well deserved! Showcases Priyanka Chopra as the incredible Bollywood actress that she is- her talents are wasted on American TV. The explosive chemistry between Deepika and Ranveer are undeniable; I had thought there was no way this film could follow up on this trio of actors' amazing performances in Ram Leela. So nice to see Indian cinema producing this standard of epic filmmaking!

As far as Indian cinema goes, this is the GOLD STANDARD; I purchased this item based on the preview alone and was absolutely enthralled with the film. Everything from the casting of the three main leads, the musical score, dance sequences, costumes, sets, and most importantly story line are all spot on. Visually stunning and beautifully directed, "Bajirao Mastani" is a feast for the eyes as well as the senses--emotionally powerful and universal in its focus on how love can be both devastating and liberating all at once, you will find yourself--much like Bajirao, Mastani, and Kashi--torn as to which is the greater force: love or obligations to ones' family/country/religion. Kashi is by far the most sympathetic and complex of the ill-fated trio, as her first appearance(s) on the screen paint her as the devoted yet slightly naive wife of Bajirao. As the film progresses and the drama played out by the characters unfolds, we see her character develop in terms of losing her naivety and becoming emotionally cold and hardened. Yet there is another layer, a layer which sees her warring with her unconditional love for her husband, her uneasy sympathy towards Mastani, and the unbearable pressures of such a socially-crippling situation weighing on her shoulders. The song "Pinga" showcases this love/hate relationship perfectly, as Kashi ultimately accepts that the situation--while far from simply disappearing and going away--is here to stay, and that her husband's happiness is all that really matters/drives her own existence, even if it does mean admitting that his heart belongs to another woman. The final sequences are the most emotionally-gripping, and Bhansali executes his trademark star-crossed lover's ending (i.e. "Devdas" and "Ram-Leela") in some of the most cinematically gorgeous shots I have ever seen. Throughout the film you will see homages to films such as "Hero," "Curse of the Golden Flower," and others which frame shots in such a way as to create an unusual and hyper-sensitive sense of (un) reality. Musically it is a gem, with Shreya Ghoshal lending her ethereal and plaintive voice to the title tracks which take you through the whole gammut of invigorating highs and crushing lows associated with love and loss. If you are a fan of Indian cinema, this is a must-have for your collection.
