Q: does the spray or wash in work better? which is easier?

The spray is an easier method for treating your apparel. The wash-in may last longer, however this depends on how often you'll be using your clothing.

Q: Do all bottle sizes come with the sparay attachment? The one pictured has none.

Found out the large refills do not come with a nozzle….idiocy for an overpriced product alread

Q: Can I use this on a down vest?

I would say yes. I have used it on 2 down jackets and had good results.

Q: what bottle to buy, color or no color?

Buy both. One is to wash out old detergents and the second is the waterproofing.
