So many uses and extremely effective
This hand gardening tool was purchased as a gift after owning one myself for several years. Can't be beat for small gardening tasks. Can be used for a multitude of tasks. This versatile tool is great for small gardens. flower or plant beds, raised gardens, and pots. It will break up dirt, weed, plant, set bulbs or loosen rocks and roots. A comfortable grip lessens hand fatigue. The tool design and sturdy materials make jobs easier and cuts the time required. Best little hand gardening tool I have ever used.

An Effective and Sturdy Tool for Battling Dandelions
My lawn had become overrun by pesky dandelions, prompting me to purchase this gardening knife. Let me tell you, it has been a game-changer in my battle against these stubborn weeds. The knife's design allows me to effectively remove the dandelion roots without causing excessive damage to the rest of my lawn. One tip I discovered is that using the knife when the soil is moist, such as after rainfall, makes the task even easier. The wet soil provides better grip and allows the knife to penetrate the ground effortlessly, making the removal process smoother and more efficient. Durability is an important factor when it comes to gardening tools, and I must say this knife is impressively sturdy. Even after tackling some heavy-duty work, it has not shown any signs of bending or weakening. It is a well-made product that stands up to the toughest tasks without fail. In conclusion, if you're struggling with a dandelion invasion in your lawn, this gardening knife is a must-have!

Good quality
I love this tool. I had another one like it but we lost it. I got this and another brand because my husband loves them too for fixing the sprinklers when they break...so we are always fighting over them. I like the width and how strong it is and it's great if you need to cut out roots.

This is great at this price point. Great for cutting sod.
Granted, its blade is not made of stainless steel. It *might* not last you a lifetime, depending on how long you live and what you do with it. But it is very good quality, and at $8, you will definitely get your money's worth. I've used it for a year in a large city lot, cutting rolls of sod for a whole day, weeding in both dry and wet conditions, digging up red clover, and it has worked fine. It may not be a professional gardener's tool, but I don't think it's billed as that. I'd recommend it to a casual or semi-serious gardener who wants a useful tool and does not have the force of a gorilla to break tools. I have to emphasize--my sister and I found this to be a godsend for cutting rolls of sod. I can't think of anything else that would have worked as well. I love this tool and I'm getting her one for Christmas!

Build Quality is Questionable
I can't give this below 4 starts, I think, because it works - it does the job, does it well, and hasn't broken on me. The marks on it make it east to judge planting depth. The blade cuts through some roots and all rough dirt. The forked tip - the main reason I like the Fiskars Hori above other brands' options - lets you snag up and pull on tougher weeds. But the welds are VERY visible and pretty ugly and don't look done well, so I worry about the longevity of it - though, again, I've had no problems yet. This may be a Quality Control issue because I have a second one of these, also a Fiskars, that I bought in-store about two years ago which looks significantly better (none of the thick and crooked welding on the one I ordered here) and continues to perform perfectly well. Since neither has broken, I'm sticking with 4 stars - it works great, but you may get one that looks bad, and so it may be better to buy in person or consider another brand (though that may lose the forked tip or cost significantly more - or both) if that worries you.

Poorly Made and Health Risk Warning
I was very disappointed in the quality of this tool. I bought it thinking - looks like a great deal and it's a Fiskars. I feel funny giving a review since I didn't used it but for a couple of reasons (quality and health warning) I decided to let other people know what I found out about this Fiskars 7079 Big grip Garden Knife. I returned it and I am so glad I did because I found the Jackson Seven-in-One VersaPlanter Garden Multi-Tool and It is so much better than the Fiskars 7079 Big grip Garden Knife. The differences between the two knives are striking: Fiskars 7079 Big grip Garden Knife: 1) Welded poorly - there were holes where it was welded and it was very shabbily done - both sides were indented, some places had more solder than others it was so poorly done that I didn't feel it was safe to use. 2) Came with health warning - "This product has chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm". I don't use chemicals in my garden why would I use any tools that could cause me harm? 3) No sheath or anything safe to put it in - It's sharp enough to cut me or damage any bag I'd put it in. 4) "Coated metal resists rust" - It says it's cast-aluminum in the product description but Aluminum is to soft by itself so what other metal is it mixed with?. Jackson Seven-in-One VersaPlanter Garden Multi-Tool: 1)Very well made - solid Stainless Steel. It does not feel like it will snap off the first time I use it (like the Fiskars did) or for that matter at anytime. Seems like a very heavy duty tool. The blade/shaft is heavier and thicker than the Fiskars. 2) Polypropylene and TPE grip - Food Grade - Not known to be dangerous. 3) Comes with a great leather and plastic sheath that the tool snaps into. 4) Stainless Steel - resists corrosion. I'm not sure on this one - it depends on how good the stainless steel is. It does seem like a nice heavy durable stainless but only time will tell. 5) I like a few of the added functions - Twine Cutter, Tamper and the 12" Measure tool I don't know if there is a better garden tool than the Jackson tool out there but for about 4 dollars extra there is no doubt in my mind it's a much better buy than the Fiskars. Update: Sorry in my comparison I used the Jackson Seven-in-One VersaPlanter Garden Multi-Tool. However it is not available and may not be ever again (unfortunately I was going to buy a couple for friends). My opinion still stands - don't buy the Fiskars. If you can't get the Jackson Knife buy almost anything else. If I find another good knife I'll update again.

This is such a useful tool. I have used it for planting seedling, pulling out weeds and opening up bags of potting mix. The hand is comfortable to grip and blade is very strong. It has become one of my favorite tools for use in the garden.
