It talks about how to look at animation and the process of creating a motion design piece. It shows you how important the process is from the beginning and that the framework needed to take that idea through the steps of creating a professional work. The ideas of mood boards and style frames and the initial brain storming that is the foundation of any great work. It shows you how to create these style frames and boards in order to develop a concept through story telling in order to convey whatever message it is you need to tell. In short, it's a book about being a professional motion designer in the grand scheme of things rather than a youtube tutorial on how to make a cool specific thing. A must have for any creative involved in motion design. Review: Great tool for designers, educators or anyone interested in creating effective graphics. - Design for Motion is not only a great tool for art educators and students learning about interactive media but is also a relevant read for freelancers, creatives or anyone interested in creating motion graphics. The real-world examples offer a valuable conversation about the current state of motion graphics and offer insight for how designers stay creative, current and effective. In the chapter Social/Mobile First, the author highlights beneficial information about the importance of capturing your audience in three seconds and how to create “thumb-stopper” content, while the “Professional Perspective” dialogues interwoven within the book offer inspiring advice and knowledge from studio founders, art directors, and freelancers. I also enjoyed reading Pablo Rochat’s perspective on social media and how he still makes daily efforts to be creative in his sketchbook. Overall, Design for Motion is a goldmine of information and a must-read for anyone who wants to be a well-rounded designer.

Big, beautiful, and a bit cumbersome.
Design for reading? This is an exquisite, intelligent, truly wonderful book, absolutely deserving of a 5 star rating. Yet I’m only giving Design for Motion 4 stars due to poor... Design! At 380 pages, reading this wide format paperback is a hefty, flouncy, uncomfortable experience. There’s so much I want to explore in this remarkable tome, but I wonder if I ever will. I think in this instance I would’ve been happier with the Kindle version.

Scanned and passed off as orginal product
Book isn't genuine. Someone printed a photocopy and stuck it together to pass off as the orginal. Paper is crappy quality and not the glossy kind that art books normally have.

Misleading product condition for this book
I bought this book under the impression it was brand new which was how it was listed. Unfortunately once I received it, there was considerable wear and tear on the pages, cover was discolored and dirty, and clearly not new. I sent it back for a refund. Be careful before buying.

I was so excited to finally order this book and receive it in the mail until I opened the package. The book contents are great but the book came with a big fold in multiple pages...

An incredible insight for anyone looking to get into this amazing industry! Great advice from top designers from various studios/disciplines. Don't expect this to teach you how to make anything in any software, it's more about the process and focuses more on the design side of things over animation. After all it is the design that drives the animation, fail to make a great design and it doesn't matter how nice the animation is. Lots of insider tips for those looking to break into the industry on how to approach work and what they look for when hiring new talent. I'm sure there is plenty for someone with more expe too but this review is from a student's perspective.
