The Perfect Addition To Your Kato Super Chief Passenger Car Set
My kit arrived in 2 weeks from Japan. The instructions were in English as well as Japanese. With a little tutoring from YouTube, I found these lights easy to install in my Kato Super Chief Passenger Car set. It was necessary; however, to shorten the light diffuser for the Vista Valley car due to the outside lights already installed. For those who found that they needed to press on the car to make the lights work, you need to redo your installation. Most likely you have inserted the light diffuser too far back and have created pressure against the light unit. You may also have bent one or both sets of contact strips. If the light is not being sent all the way to the other end of the car, the light diffuser is either upside down or too far away from the LED. When properly installed, these lights are excellent. I did not use the color filter because I liked the color of the light as is. These filters require removing the light board from the plastic unit for insertion. This is very hard in N scale. I wouldn't bother if I were you.

Good fit, poor light color.
Kato makes well-engineered products. The fit is very good and installation is quick. I wish they would use warm color LED, around 2500-300K, instead of the blue color 4-5K in appearance. The blue color is unfit for earlier models as it gives an ugly fluorescent light appearance. The orange lens is very difficult to apply and does virtually nothing to effect the blue. It seems like an afterthought.

Nice lighting effect
Adds a nice lighting effect to Kato passenger cars. Install varies depending on type cars. Some were pretty easy, some were hard and took some trial and error to get working, but worth the effort.

Brilliantly engineered, just takes some patience
When installed correctly, these look great. They cast an even light throughout the cabin, and everything has obviously been very well engineered and machined. I have them on a DCC layout, though apparently they work on DC layouts just as well. It will probably take you about 15 minutes for the first car, and then 2-3 minutes for each one after that. For me, I found the following to be helpful: 1) On the lamp portion, give the pins a slight bend so they have some "spring" into the metal contact strips. This will also help hold everything in place. 2) Pay attention so how the lightboard goes in place. The light is in the back of the car, and the front of the top (which you remove to install the lighting it) is marked with an arrow (at least it was on my Amtrak Intercities). The light panel should snap, or at least sit in place, when it is seated correctly. 3) Consider putting a small piece of electrical tape underneath the lamp piece. Just like 1cm x 1/2cm, enough to block light shining down on those first two rows of seats. With this in place, the lighting across the car is much more even. The kit also contains six (and exactly six) orange pieces of plastic which can be mounted on the lamp piece to help diffuse and "warm" the color a bit. The effect is subtle, but I think it more closely matches the lighting I've seen on the rails, so I'd recommend at least giving them a try.

Add a lot to your trains looks
Install goes easily after the first one. They look great. That add a lot to the looks of your passenger trains.

Led Kato kit fitted to A700 Japanese model
Nice kit but non clear instructions. Fitting to A700 train ends needed the light segments last segment snapped off along with sides snapped to the nearest radius. The narrow white line goes to face the Led. It is located with the large flange on the inside, narrow facing the carriages roof and their are lugs sort of center to locate on. The brass legs go into the long open slots on the base and then pressed under the supports taking care not to bend while pushing in. The Led sits on top shining side ways into above clear guide with the pins being contacted by the brass contacts this is very poor and need much fiddling and adjustment. The trains need to go back together easily, easiest I found was to have carriage on its roof on a towel and then lower the lower half upside down. One of the carriages was extremely difficult to click back together .... it need one side a little first and then other-side lowered and widened... once together may need to compress sides for final snap As usual this was the most difficult carriage it was the one with intermittent lighting on curves at higher speeds... after taking it fully apart oh those little couplings link springs are a total pain and are fitted through the access slots after the carriages and base fit together with couplings The fault is somewhere in the contacts from the wheels to main bus bars. Hope this helps... Also when the train stops the lights stop as a Dc system.

Difficult to install, disappointing results
This kit is poorly designed and the results were extremely disappointing. I tried to install the lights in my Kato Superliner cars, and after struggling to get it installed correctly, they just looked awful. The kit comes with these little orange lenses to make the LEDs less blue, but they should really come already installed, because they only help a little, and they are nearly impossible to get in place. You have to take apart the light assembly the put them in, and they’re about the size of a fingernail clipping, but there’s nothing to hold it in place while you put the light back together. The main issue is that there is only one LED, and it gets installed at one end of the car. There is a diffuser that gets installed in the roof, but the Superliner cars only have two of the three tabs to hold it in, so there is nothing to hold it in alignment with the light. Maybe it would look better if the diffuser was perfectly aligned with the LED, but I doubt it would evenly distribute the light throughout the car. If you’re okay with your train looking like it’s lit from one end by a single light, then save yourself the money and just buy a pack of LEDs.

I bought these to install in my KATO Silver Streak Zephyr train set. The instruction are not great thankfully there are a few videos out there that made it pretty easy. I had to bend the copper inserts a bit to get good contact with the light fixture and one of the cars the window glass kept falling out. I got it all working and love the effect. Best price around, fast delivery and good quality what more could you ask for thanks!
