Rough Ryder Camp Knife Amber Bone, one Size (RR533)

its hard to find knives in this traditional pattern anymore. Fit and finish is great walk and talk is perfect. blades dont have any side to side play. the springs are big and a little stiff and might be hard for a younger person to open. overall this knife is very nice quality for the price you will be hard pressed to find a better classic scout/camp pattern than this.the older style can opener takes a litte to get used to but it works great for a ferro rod striker and can be used just like the awl for heavier duty jobs.the awl has the sharpest point of any i have seen on a knife. i have many scout pattern knives and this is as good as any and better than most dont let the price fool you this is a quality knife that will last for years

Great knives! Rough Riders are nearly on a par with Case sometimes, at least the stainless bladed ones... And at a fraction of the price. This particular model is much better than the current Boy Scout knives, which are also made in China. Mine has a can opener that is a little too stiff to open easily. That's the only negative I can say about it. It works fine, opening any size can. Excellent fit and finish, walk and talk.

Solid pocket knife. Came nice and sharp. Feels solid and I like the details. It's got nice groves and studs to open it easy enough.

This is a high quality, well made, easily sharpened camp knife the likes of which costs 50 - 60 or more dollars from other comparable brands. I say comparable because the quality of this knife, sitting right alongside much more expensive knives that I own is comparable - simple as that, if you ignore price and just judge these on what-they-are you cannot tell that this isn't a 60+ dollar knife, nothing about it feels cheap or shabby. I carry this knife daily, I have even bought two more because I like them so much, the scalloping is ribbed and works great, the steel is decently hard 440 stainless - easily sharpened albeit not the hardest metal. The scales are genuine bone, the D ring on it is thick and well made, everything about this knife is well made. I am very very VERY impressed with this and I think that with care, this knife will last me a lifetime.

This might be the dullest knife I ever pulled out of a box and I own over one hundred knives from many manufactureres. The last Rough Rider I bought was a Congress Amber bone. I like these type of multi-blade knives for obvious reasons if you are camping, doing detail work or woodcraft or bushcraft. However, it seems to me that the quality control at RR is sorely lacking. This particular knife has not a single edge that is remotely share. Not only that but on ALL OF THE RR knives recently, I have noticed that the "finger nail" PULL is not accessible or is just not deep enough even for the most robust finger nail. To the point, I had to use a Victorianox tool so that I could launch the blades on both knives just mentioned. I will NOT be buying any more of these Rough Rider knives, much as I love the multi-blade pocket knife design. These knives are junk. I don't know what happened to this company but I hope they get their act together because the last thing a hiker, woodsman/woman needs is a knife that needs a multitool before you can launch the blade or that it is so dull that it will not cut ANYTHING. And I do mean this without exaggeration.

Great pocket knife for everyday carry. I carry mine and comes in handy. Also price is excellent value compared to more expensive pocket knives with less tools.

The knife is well made. It would appear to be a copy of something that might have been on the market when the Rough Riders were fighting in Cuba. Some of the blades are a bit hard to open but that's about it. The can opener blade works but it's not a modern design.

This camp knife also came pretty dull, and one of the smaller blades had burrs on the chisel grind. But really, that's not that hard to fix. There was a bigger problem: The blades rub each other badly when closing. This has been true on my Ryder patterns with more than two blades. It is hard to make multi-blade folding knives that work correctly -- and I've yet to see this brand accomplish it. Meanwhile, their one or two blade knives work seamlessly. And, their low prices are amazing.
