Replacing an Aurora GTQ II which crapped out. This RND 511 is the real deal, first RND I've had.
...nice clean headroom for years, and Silk Blue to boot! The 511 still can produce a 'heft' like the Aurora, due to the trannies. Now, using the Silk blue has me salivating for some RND 542s

Makes everything sound beautiful
So excited about this product, wish I could buy two more. I just started production, and this pre-amp just gave life to my recordings, the difference is night and day.

Dies after about 2 years
After mine died suddenly, I got online and realized Portico's are notorious for their power sections dying. Now I will need to drop several hundred bucks on shipping it off to be repaired. That's one of the problems with expensive gear. You end up feeling "pot-committed" after spending all that dough. I am so unhappy about it, I might just toss it in the trash and buy a reasonably priced pre to replace it. As much as I respect Rupert, this will be the last RND product I buy.
