Precise, distinct, and very loud. Easy blowing, no-nonsense.
I now own several models from Acme and Fox 40, and I think Acme's pealess whistle products are underrated. They aren't as flamboyantly stylish as some of the newer Fox 40 designs, but they are very well made, they feel great and perform flawlessly. This is the louder-brother of the Cyclone 888 model. It is most comparable to Fox 40's Sonik Blast Fox 40 Sonik Blast Cushion Mouth Group Sports and Safety Loud Whistle with Lanyard, Orange & Black (2 Pack) , which were measured by Refsworld to be in the same class of the most powerful whistles (~127.0 dB). You need to be careful with whistles this powerful as you can easily hurt your own ears or those of others if too close by. I would NEVER use whistles of this class indoors. Look to the Cyclone 888 model if you'll be using the whistle in a gymnasium setting. The T2000 has the same general platform as the Cyclone 888, but has an extra chamber in the middle, making it wider. The voice hole for that chamber is directed out the bottom surface. The wider form factor may make it easier to handle with gloved hands, making a good choice on ski patrol. This T2000 is very well made, with high quality plastic that feels solid and sturdy. There is a micro texture to some surfaces that I find comfortable and reassuring in terms of its handling quality. My example has perfectly finished seams and no burrs, which has been typical of the high build standard I've seen in all the Acme models I own. My Fox 40 examples have a little variation to them. My Classic is well built like the Acmes, but my example of the Fox 40 Sonik Blast looked and felt a little more like a cheap toy, with sloppy seams and burrs, which thankfully that didn't affect the sound performance. I don't worry too much about cracking the plastic of this Acme T2000 in sub-freezing weather, but I'm not sure about the Sonik Blast (don't drop it). Both the T2000 and the Sonik Blast are easy to blow as well as being very loud. I think the Sonik Blast is a little bit easier, but the T2000 is no harder to blow than the Cyclone 888, and all take much less air to sound than the Fox 40 Classic. The T2000 produces the same distinct and fully developed trill of the 888, even at modest blow strength. For pealess whistles, I think both the 888 and T2000 produce the most "pea"-like sound of any model I've tried so far, and I find their sound very aesthetically pleasing. Fox 40's Sonik Blast, for comparison also has a great sound, though I feel the trill isn't as crisp. I also noticed that the Sonik Blast sounds different depending on which way you orient it in your mouth, though this is likely due to sound from one of the chambers needing to reflect off the ground first before reaching the ears of the blower; it seems to me people hearing the whistle at a distance would not notice. Fox 40, I wonder, may wish to study the effect of the location of the voice holes on their designs. The Acme T2000's hole location seems to project the loudest sound straight out in front of the user, which is safer for their hearing. The Sonik Blast's holes emerge top and bottom, but the shape of the body and the taper to the mouth opening might be causing too much sound energy to project out too close to the plane of the user. I've about deafened myself with just a short tweet while bicycling with the whistle in the right wind conditions. I've not had this problem with the T2000. The T2000, apart from being wide, has a traditional feel in the mouth, and like all similar form-factor whistles is easy to hold in the teeth, hands-free. Its competition the Sonik Blast, however, is wide in the vertical dimension with a short taper to the mouthpiece. It's good that the Sonik Blast has a comfort mouth grip (CMG) molded in, because the short taper makes it surprisingly awkward to hold in the mouth, as it feels like it wants to squirt out from between your lips. A little bite pressure against the CMG ridges prevents that and I could still hold it hands free, but the T2000 just felt more stable to work with hands-free. It seems to me that Fox 40 may be trying to differentiate themselves in the market by focusing more on the physical appearance of their whistle designs. The Sonik Blast seems to go a tad too far in this regard, compromising the user's ability to hold it in the mouth confidently. The playful appearance may cause one to not take it seriously. Although wide, the Acme T2000 maintains the same no-nonsense design shapes that have been standard of whistles for decades, it's easy to hold and conveys a sense of utilitarian confidence. If the Sonik Blast looks playful, I would say the T2000 looks professional. No worries with this one, it's here to work, so let's make some signals!

Good whistle, but the material used in the whistle is a bit cheap.
I purchased this whistle because I wanted something different. I have been using the Fox 40 brand whistles for quite some time and found them to be prevalent on the soccer field. I am a referee, and in order to have a distinct sounding whistle on the field I purchased this along with a Molten Deluxe and Fox 40 Caul Whistles. By the way, I already own Fox 40 Classic, Pearl and Sonic Blast. I like the sound that this whistle creates, not quite as high pitched as the Classic however it is higher pitched than the Pearl, but the material is of cheap quality. The plastic mold for this whistle is what you would find about 30 years ago on some of your electronic equipment. You can easily see seams from the mold and swirls from the flow of plastic while forming. The newer whistles, like the Caul and Fox 40 Eclipse are more appealing. Also the fingergrip metal of the whistle is of cheap quality that bends too easily and I find myself constantly adjusting the fit over my fingers. I prefer the fingergrip whistles over the lanyard style but the cheap sheet metal fingergrip on this whistle just does not do a good job of staying on my fingers comfortably. In my opinion this is how I would rate these whistles. Mind you this is a subjective rating based on my personal observation on the pitch. 1. Fox 40 Sonic Blast - extremely loud with good sound quality. Great for outdoor, too loud for indoor. 2. Fox 40 Pearl - Not very loud but has a deeper sound than other whistles that I have used other than Caul. Great for Indoor, will do on a small field outdoor. 3. Acme Tornado - Quite loud and with good sound but the fingergrip mechanism is crap. Good overall for both indoor and outdoor. 4. Molten Delux - As loud as Acme Tornado, but is sounds a bit cheap, plus it does not have a fingergrip mechanism that I prefer. Good for both indoor and outdoor. 5. Fox 40 Classic - As loud as Acme Tornado, but with a much higher pitch. (Too many referees use this whistle on the pitch, indoor and outdoor, but it is quite a good whistle.) 6. Fox 40 Caul - As loud as the Pear but with a deeper tone. (It sounds loud to me, but from personal experience it is not heard easily on the field. I wrote a review of this whistle on Amazon.) Not recommended.

Stay away!
Horrible sound, horrible feel. Terrible! from a soccer referee. Acme has great products, but this isn't it.

Loud but too much airflow; tiring to blow
Really loud, maybe too loud unless you have earplugs. High pitch. I have been trying to find a good whistle for Refereeing swim meets. I found that the cheap metal whistles have a bad taste and require too much air to be loud. We blow a lot of prolonged whistles and it tires you out using too much air. I got 3 whistles to compare: The Acme Thunderer 60.5: Low airflow, loud without hurting my ears. Does not taste like metal. Classy look with a nice sound. This is my go-to whistle now. Fox 40 Classic Safety Whistle: Low airflow, loud and shrill. I prefer the Thunderer sound a bit more, this is my backup. Acme T2000 Tornado: High airflow, too loud and too shrill. You can't blow it softly, it only makes a sound when you blow hard.
