Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Ultimate Equipment Review: Best tool so far for any gear, hands down - I have a fairly large group that gets together every week, and have been for the last two years. This book is simply amazing. By now we are well versed on certain pieces of gear and magic items, but unless we had the book and page number noted down, if we ever had to look up an item it turned out to be a real problem. The core and advanced book don't include individual items in their index. This book is hands down the best reference for items I've seen. I know I could always fire up the laptop and search a PDF for certain items and effects, and i've been known to do that, but for most of us playing this game, a laptop breaks up the action. We like having a physical book to flip through, and this one does not disappoint. To make mention, this is on par with the original printing quality of the core rulebook. It is not the fairly shoddy print job of the ultimate magic/ultimate combat books. This is a dense, nicely laid out book that makes sense, is color coded (which I hope they take that design forward into future books, makes finding chapters very easy), and has a very good selection of items. Other reviewers knock it for lack of complete items from every resource. So far I cannot agree with them. My group does not buy various campaign settings or unofficial additional content type books. We prefer to make our own campaigns and don't like being restricted. Because of this, we aren't aware of all the various add-on equipment and campaign specific magic items and qualities, and I'm pretty ok with that. If I want a new magic item for my crew, I know how to craft one that won't be game-breaking for my campaign, I don't know if I can trust every author of a campaign to have the same sense. So from my point of view, one that has read through the core books but not big on the additional optional books, this resource is very emcompassing. If it's missed a few items, I haven't been able to tell on several uses yet. I'm also told there are a few mistakes concerning pricing. Generally this is one area for equipment that we ignore, prices are based on what I expect them to pull off for it and are subject to change, so we haven't noticed this either. High print quality, good loot table ideas that can be modified to fit your campaign, a fantastic index that makes looking for specific items a breeze; get this book for your group. I wouldn't say this is really needed for everyone in your group, I would suggest you do like mine does and each chip in a few dollars to get at least one of these to pass around on game night. I have 8-9 players every week, so I am considering buying a second one for us. Part 03 - Magic Arms and Armor. Armor Special Abilities, Specific Magic Armor and Shields, Weapon Special Abilities, and Specific Magic Weapons. Part 04 - Rings, Rods, and Staves. Part 09 - OGL. The usual Open Gaming Licences. This is probably one of the best and most thorough collections of items for PC's and NPC's alike available. It includes a section on firearms should you want to include them in your campaign. The small drawings throughout, I believe, helps you visualize your tools of the trade. No less than eight tables of slotless equipment - four pages of random item generation. Altogether, 400 pages of crunch for both players and GM's. There are almost too many to count pages of random items. Each section includes a table of items and costs. The book includes both a good Table of Contents and a comprehensive index. This is another hardcover book from Paizo that should almost be indispensable for GM's, and close to indispensable for players. One of my higher recommendations.

A pretty good resource
A book about equipment is never perceived as a priority for a GM or even players. GMs think they have all the equipment and items they need from many books and players know that buying a book that has a huge library of magic items which they might not see at all, well, they prefer to spend money in other books. Ultimate Equipment proves everyone wrong. This book is so well organized that makes the equipment and magic items section in the Core Book seem like outdated and not useful. The way is presented is pretty straight forward. One section on arms and armor, one on adventuring gear, one on magic weapons and armor, one on staves, rods, rings and wands, another one on wondrous magic items and last, one for artifacts, cursed items and intelligent weapons. The great aspect about each section, specifically the magic sections, is how tables are organized, showing the low level magic items and moving all the way up to tables on the most powerful magic items. If you pair that with a magnificent treasure generator (can be a bit overwhelming at first), you can tailor your "random" treasure for your parties with such an ease that didn't exist before. This organization makes this book a perfect buy for any GM and even for players. It includes oriental weapons, firearms and some really unique weapons to spice up the game. The game provides nice pictures or many of the items presented, which is a plus. This is a magnificent tool and while I am sure it won't be popping up on most game nights, it will certainly makes the GM's life a lot easier. Oh, and I love the quality of the paper. Some of the last books had some lower quality paper (Ultimate Campaing, for example), but this one is great.

I got this to help complete my collection of Pathfinder compendiums. It is actually very useful as we refer to it all the time during our campaigns. It has all the equipment that the core and DM manuals don't. A lot of extra's can be found in here too that will help you with character creation or during the adventure when something comes up that is out of the ordinary. The book arrived super quickly and in excellent condition. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a little extra when playing the Pathfinder game or if you just want to complete your personal collection.

Ultimate Equipment is a fantastic resource for RPGs. Well-illustrated and fairly comprehensive, it’s still compatible with the updated edition of Pathfinder and it works perfectly fine for D&D 5E, too. It’s great for differentiating your khopesh from your kukri, and contains plenty of fantasy weapons and armour as well as historical ones from various cultures and time periods. There’s also lots of options here for non-combat gear, alchemical remedies, tools and weapons, and mounts and other animals. About half of the book’s 400 pages are dedicated to magical items for all levels of play. Some of the ideas are excellent and might even inspire an adventure in their own right. This is one of those books you’ll really get your money’s worth out of if you play regularly. Well worth the investment, in my opinion.
