Absolutely love this Smeg toaster! 😍 It arrived today and I’m already obsessed! The cream color is gorgeous, the retro design looks so premium and stylish on my countertop. Build quality feels solid and high-end, with shiny chrome details. Toasted my bread perfectly on the first try – even, golden, no burnt edges. Wide slots are great for thicker slices. Pairs beautifully with my matching Smeg kettle. Worth every penny for that wow factor in the kitchen! Highly recommend 👍 If you want it even shorter or any tweaks, just let me know!

I don’t usually get excited about kitchen appliances, but this Smeg 2-Slice Toaster has genuinely impressed me. First off, the gloss black finish is gorgeous—sleek and neutral, it blends effortlessly with the rest of my kitchen, even though I don’t have a retro-themed space. It has that vintage charm Smeg is known for, but still feels perfectly at home in a more modern, contemporary setting. Functionally, it’s just as impressive. The range of browning levels is spot on—I can go from lightly toasted to deeply golden with total consistency. What really stood out for me, though, is the bagel function. I love to toast everything bagels, that has garlic and other seasonings on the side, and with other toasters I’ve ended up with burnt, bitter garlic more times than I can count. But this one toasts just the cut side, leaving the outside warm but not burnt, so no acrid or acidic taste—just perfect every time. It’s surprisingly satisfying to use too—solid build, intuitive controls, and it just feels like a quality product. A small luxury, maybe, but one I use every day. Highly recommend!

I was going to return this before trying it as I read the reviews AFTER buying it; then I cancelled the return and decided to give it a go. Let me say, the first couple of days I toasted one-sided items, and it was working well - thus, my decision to cancel my return. THEN, today I put in regular bread for toasting, and lo and behold, it toasts more rapidly on one side, so if you want both sides toasted, you can expect one side to be burnt. The other side will be ok. If you toast to a normal setting you would like, you get one side toasted perfectly, and the other side barely toasted at all. I'm going to have to return it. What is nice about it: The toaster is big, the color is nice, it looks great on the counter, the holes are wide. I really like it and want to keep it, but it's not going to happen since it doesn't do what it is supposed to do very well - TOAST. My reason for buying a new toaster is/was just this reason My other one only toasts one side of the bread, so why would I spend this kind of money for the same problem. My search is on! If you know of a toaster that works well in the "toasting" department, give me a shout out. UPDATE: 5/14/17 - Well, my old toaster finally had to go and because I loved this one & it's look I decided to give it another try. The last one must have been defective for sure; this one works fabulously! So Far, that is. And I have high hopes that it will continue. I love this toaster. I would recommend it to anyone; just know that if it doesn't toast properly out of the box, ask for an exchange as you probably just got one that was defective (as I did the first go around). BUT, like I said, this one toasts perfectly - both sides evenly toasted when it pops out, and isn't this what we want. Not one that pops up and one side is toasted while the other side isn't barely toasted. Give this one a try. It might take 2 tries, but I love this thingnow.

Very esthetic and solid

This toaster looks nice. And that is where the good things stop. This is just another piece of junk, but on that costs 10 times as much as others. First, it toasts unevenly. We had hoped this was temporary and the toaster just needed to be broken in. A good year or so later and it is still terrible. Second, it absolutely requires a round of preheating before you can expect it to do anything but dry out your bread. Not too big of a deal until you realize … Third, it is slow. Very slow. Painfully slow. Especially when you consider having to preheat, and then still getting a product that is not what you want because … Fourth, the toaster is highly inconsistent. Even post preheat, you might get an okay toast on the next batch, followed by maybe warm bread on the next, when you are toasting the exact same product. Finally, the toaster seems weak overall (we typically have it set to 5 or 5.5 out of 6 and get very light toasting) and, it turns out, not being able to raise the bread (I dare not call it toast most days) is actually an issue, as the toaster is still hot. So, you will probably need to buy toaster tongs to get your hot bread out of this toaster. Save your money. This is not worth it.

Great quality toaster and looks great.

I am in love with the color and the design. After hearing all the buzz about Smeg’s retro-style appliances, I decided to treat myself to their toaster, and it hasn’t disappointed! Right off the bat, the design is a showstopper. The sleek, 50s-inspired look adds such a stylish touch to my kitchen. It’s one of those appliances that you don’t mind leaving out on the counter because it doubles as a decor piece. Functionally, the Smeg toaster is just as impressive. It toasts evenly and consistently, which is a big deal for me because I’m picky about my toast! There are six browning levels, so it’s easy to adjust depending on whether you like your bread lightly toasted or golden brown. I’ve tried everything from bagels to thicker artisan bread, and it handles them all with ease, thanks to the wide slots.
