Although more expensive than other options I am glad I went with this door. I bought a new rear entrance door made of wood so cutting out the opening would be easier. Fiberglass doors aren't easily cut I was told and I expect steel doors are similarly frustrating/hard to modify. The new door was matched to my old door so I didn't need a new frame. That saved $1500 so make sure you look for a door matching service if/when you buy the new wood door. If you have a panelized door like me you'll need to build a small frame on one side for the dog door to fit correctly. This is 4 sticks of wood so don't panic. All instructions are clear and a template makes it hard to mess up. I made a card board mockup of the opening to see if our lab could / would make it through before I purchased everything. The end result is a sturdy, very well insulated dog door. There are no cold drafts and it's 22F outside right now. The dog cruises in and out now without any trouble although needed treats to start off with. We make sure there's a light outside on at night.

I've purchased several dog doors and this one is by far the best. It is solid and the doors are quiet when they open and close. The instructions are easy to understand and the installation was seamless. I suggest the large or extra large pet door is installed in a door without raised panels unless you want to try and fill the recesses to prevent cold and/or hot air from escaping or coming in. I needed a new door anyway so I bought a fiberglass insulated door with a flat surface and it works great. Took my dogs an hour or so to get used to the pet door opening in the middle instead of a swinging flap. Getting a dog treat going out and coming in helped. Would have liked to have the sliding track for the steel security panel included as with most pet doors. Being installed in an exterior door I had to screw in the steel panel and unscrew the steel panel everyday for safety and when I didn't want the dogs going in and out on their own. Now have the convenience of sliding the steel door in and out and still feeling safe and I have the option of removing the track and screwing in the steel panel when I go on vacation. It is expensive $624 and adding another $100 for the sliding steel track was an investment but it is very well made and lives up to all the promises from the manufacturer.

TLDR: good, high quality product that the company stands behind. I bought one of these in April 2017. One of my dogs thinks she's a missile every time she uses it. And, she goes in and out multiple times before I can make it to the backyard area via the human route. One of my torsion springs broke last year: replaced under warranty. One of the doors broke a couple of days ago; again, they're sending me a warranty replacement. So, am I disappointed in these two issues? Yes and no. My dogs really beat the hell out of this door, so I'm not surprised. I don't think any other pet door would have survived more than a few months. I think PlexiDor makes a very good product. It is expensive, and I initially questioned myself for investing the money in a dog door. No more. As we wait for the replacement, I realized how it has made my life so much easier. I spoke with Bill, the guy manning the phones for PlexiDor. He's very knowledgeable and said they're constantly improving the product and redesigning areas identified as weaknesses.

The PlexiDor is a well made item that in my opinion is worth the price. The fit and finish on the unit is excellent and it even has the person's name on it who made it. That's a pretty good sign they take pride in their work. Installation took longer than expected but that was due to my own lack of skill and not having the right tools. It only took one trip to Home Depot to get what I needed. I am really surprised by how airtight it is. The doors close tightly and I feel very little air leakage from it. I have it installed in a basement door at the bottom of stairs and even though a lot of cold air collects in this area the PlexiDor manages to seal well. I had a looked at doors and was hesitant to get one only because I was afraid of the heat loss. This is a great product and I'm sorry I didn't buy it sooner.

I bought this door for a couple of dumb 11 lb. cats. Yes, they know how to kill mice, eat, sleep and are great at getting attention but they obviously aren't smart enough to pry their way through the door. The con? They are bending the spring and have in possibly not work correctly again. Nothing in the instructions for lessening the tension. The Pro? This is made very well. Good materials and was easy to assemble and install, if you call saw cutting brick and trimming out and chase easy... 3 stars for the construction and zero for the hard spring hinge.

When it comes to a great pet door this is one of the best. This is my third Plexidor. This one replaced a door that had been installed and used by four different dogs over the past 20 years. They really hold up over time. Good weather resistance (we live in Maryland) and the dogs have no issues. The only reason for four out of five stars is the newest door doesn't fully align when closed, it overlaps. But that doesn't let cold air in so it's not worth returning. Pricey yes, but worth it if you want a great dog door while keeping the outside weather out.

I'm not big on doing reviews, but after struggling for a year to find genuine reviews from people who have large dogs & live in 4 season climates for Doggie doors, I decided I should do one to make it easier for other people in the same situation. I have 2 Full grown Rhodesian Ridgebacks. Based on Plexidors recommendation, I originally ordered the large door. I didn't even take it out of the box because I could tell that my female who's a bit timid, wouldn't want to bend that much to get out the door. I then ordered the xlarge and had a friend, who's not a carpenter, but knows the basics, installed the doggie door with zero issues. I've now had the door for summer, fall and am currently in winter in Nova Scotia. I had zero issues with high winds, mosquitoes, ice or snow. It took about 2 day's of training to get the dog's using it. My boy runs in and out of it none stop and my timid girl will go through it, but goes slow after getting hit in the nose once trying to go in directly after her brother. I can not say enough positives about this door. It is totally worth every penny.

Great quality, easy install. My dogs love it, I purchased the large size and it’s plenty big enough. Highly recommend this product! I live in northern alberta and have extremely cold -40 Celsius winters and so far it’s been great! The only down side is my floors need mopping more often as the dogs are in and out constantly.

First of all it was defectivre, got broken just after instalation and second of all I had to pay to ship it back. And third, I was left with whole in door. If I can I give 0 stars

I did a lot of research before I settled on purchasing this door and I was not disappointed. It came packaged securely with excellent installation instructions. With the right tools, installation went smoothly, it was installed in about 2 hours. The finished product looks professional and high end. It was purchased for two dogs to use, a smallish pug mix and a medium shar pei mix. We went with the medium sized door which turned out to be perfect for both. The door has been in use for a few weeks now. With a few treats and about 15min, they were going through it on their own. At first we left the doors right off of it so they would get used to the height of it and get comfortable using it on their own. We have since put both doors on, but are keeping one side propped open until they are used to the feel and sight of the door. Fingers crossed that when we take the prop off, they will be using it like pros! Very happy with this purchase.

Fantastic product......this is the 4th one purchased.....have one to garage, one to laundry room and one to back entrance. One was left at another residence upon sale of property. Best pet door product. Well worth the money!
