Made in America. All arresters are manufactured in the USA, utilizing all-American copper and brass materials.

Do these have to be mounted vertical or can the cap be mounted horizontal?

They can be mounted in any direction. I use two for my hose connections outside (mounted horizontally) and they work just fine.

how long does yours last before it stops working?

About 3 years, and only 500-600 on/off cycles before it stopped arresting water hammer. It was installed between an exterior hose bib and a battery powered mechanical timer.

Where is the best place to install these for the whole house?

I think that this type water hammer arrestor was intended more for clothes washer or dish washer then for whole house. I would recommend the 653-b arrestor for the whole house installed as close to where the water line enters the house as possible
