Warm soundstage that doesn't boost bass to simulate "fullness" and keeps source integrity

I don't know about how they would last for the typical user because I manage sound systems and wrapping cables properly is one of the most important habits to develop. That aside, I highly recommend swapping out the silicon covers for Yurbuds Enhancers (you get them from JBL). It will tighten up the soundstage a bit and there's a little more bass.I have been using the Bose IEs for many years now and was looking for a pair for my brother for the longest time. We both like partial in-ear as opposed to the noise isolation in-ear, but there seems to be a lack of earphones that are partial in-ear. Then, I stumbled across these while resuming my search one day and added it to the list. The specs were impressive compared to others on my list (too bad Bose doesn't release it's specs so i had to judge it by ear). The bigger drivers are nice and produce a warmer sound stage than the Bose. I've known Audio Technica to not equalize too much with the ES7 and M50 headphones and these earphones followed that same tradition. The Bose have a reverse check-mark type of equalization (high boost of bass, little boost high), while the ATH has a flat/frown face type (slight boost of mids). Soundstage is warmer and more "real" than Bose in my opinion. Some would say that it's not as "fun" as the Bose because it doesn't give that boosted bass that people like to lean towards (boosted bass tends to give the impression of a fuller sound). I usually have the volume control set to max and turn it down when i want to focus more on what someone's saying without having to pause my music.Like the Bose, it rests in the bowl of the ear so it may take some getting used to. The Bose does have slightly higher sensitivity, but I think the ATH are one of its real competitors; I've been through so many reviews that compare isolating in-ear to the non-isolating in-ear Bose, which makes me dismiss the review altogether.I only compared specs of partial in-ears, in case you're thinking of tossing some models of in-ears at me. I always recommend people to try it out first so that they can compare for themselves rather than base it on a review made by someone who may have a different set of preferences. I think that this is a really good set of earphones and have been recommending that people try it out ever since I got it.

A set of comfortable earbuds despite its size
I acquired a set of these earbuds to use with an entry-level Sony Hi-res walkman. I am not an audiophile and get turned-off by strong bass. My headphones and earbuds are purchased for their ability to reproduce sounds naturally without a strong emphasis on bass. For the price tag, the ATH-CHX7 meets my expectation. The earbuds may look heavy on paper but they do not feel like so when I am wearing them. Of course, they are heavier than the Bose IE2 that I own. I have not tried using the ATH-CHX7 with my Android phone. I can use my other iPhone-certified headphones with my phone without any problem. As such, the ATH-CHX7 is dedicated for the walkman.Another fact that I like is that the ATH-CHX7 is NOT an in-ear type. I never find in-ear buds comfortable for more than an hour. I can wear the ATH-CX7 for a few hours without any discomfort. I do not need the sound isolation as I use the ATH-CX7 indoor in an office environment. The size of the ATH-CHX7 is nothing to write home about. It is gigantic for earbuds. Of course, it takes a lot of realestate to house a 14+mm driver. It takes some explanation for others to understand the size. The shape is futuristic looking nonetheless.Should I go with a balanced armature earbud instead? The answer is probably no due to price. If I want to spend a few hundred $ on a headphone, I want an over-the-ear type which offers relatively superior performance if designed properly.

great sound quality earbuds
i thought i'd give these a try since i'm not a big fan of the in-ear earbuds. i knew the brand was reliable from the get go so i knew i was getting a quality product. the sound quality is pretty amazing - deep bass and crisp treble. i could definitely tell the increase in sound quality compared to my old earbuds.it came with two different size eartips and the ones (smaller) that were already on the earbuds worked the best for me. the fit on my ears was a bit looser than i expected. i thought it would be a little tighter fit but i'm fine with it. the carrying case is nice but it's kinda flat to fit the earbuds into. you could fit it in the case but you'd have to roll it up just right so that it used every space inside the case. i bought a separate case for it, which is a better fit.there is a volume control on the cord and a button, which serves as a pause and a track selection button on your android phone. overall i'm happy with these earbuds.

Good pair of earbuds. Works for Samsung Note 4
I'm an Audio Technica fan. I also own the M50x over ear studio headphones and wear them while I work. Love them. I've been looking for a pair of earbuds (primarily for phone conversations) with a mic to throw in my purse to use when I need to be hands free. These earbuds says that it's made for Apple products, but I use it with my Samsung Note 4 phone and it works fine. Volume, start, stop, etc. responds. I've used Bose, Sennheiser, Panasonic, even Samsung's upgraded Level In-Ear headphones. I still prefer these based on the clear sound during a phone call. I can hear the other person clearly and they can hear me without my voice distorting or echoing. If you're looking to buy earbuds to be your go- to for music as well as phone conversations, just know that the bass is no deep bass. The treble is most noticeable. You can make some adjustments on your phone settings to tweak it, but this is just how these earbuds work.As far as looks goes, these stand out because they're bigger than others. But if you're lucky and these happen to conform to your ears; these are going to be keepers. These fit me nicely and they stay put and don't fall out when I'm out and about. I also like the little zippered case with its logo on it. Nice touch. Well made.

Poor durability
At first the item was really good.Took 2 days to be used to the form of the earphones. BUT 1 month later one of them started not functionning properly. Second month later both had a problem. 3rd month I just have to touch (or even the wind) the playback controls for the sound to stop.I did not used them to do sports or anything so they are completly overpriced for what the time they offer.

Poor design, painful experience
Uncomfortable, awkwardly sized, they sound good when you can get them to sit in your ear properly, but that's next to impossible thanks to the design. trying to get them to stay in physically hurt my ears. Not worth the money
