Q: What is the strength in mg of this product? The product only says it is 2oz of liquid.

This brand fails to list it's dosage anywhere including the company website. You could be buying something that is 1/10th the common dose for all anyone knows. Herbals most certainly do have measurements the same as medicine from the doctor. They are simply not as refined and the compounds within the plant usually vary. 300mg of valerian root from one plant may have more or less of the compounds that have a positive effect than 300mg of valerian root from another plant. There are also multiple species of valerian root that could have differences. While that makes the result less predictable it doesn't mean you can't measure it. The brands I usually buy liquid herbal solutions of make the process simple by stating each ml is extracted from a certain mg weight of dried herb. My current brand is 330mg to 1ml. Another brand I commonly use says 175mg per .7ml. Sometimes it requires more math. One brand lists 8lbs per gallon so figuring out how much is in their single dropper recommended dose is not nearly as easy. Unfortunately I find neither brand I typically use is proving even as strong as valerian root capsules. Sublingual liquids in general have a stronger effect so either valerian root is an exception or neither one is very concentrated so I am having to do math on other brands.

This product as all other natural extracts has glycerin which is a sugar alcohol, that’s why it taste sweet. Sugar alcohol is not glycemic; it doesn’t increase your blood sugar levels which is important if you are diabetic. Nevertheless I am no longer use this particular product because it has too much glycerin, I use Herb Pharm products which you can find on Amazon. It’s more expensive but it has much better consistency of ingredients. Also to avoid sweet aftertaste add 1 pipette of extract to 1.5-2 ounces of water, it will consume better.
