Fits well and very comfortable
These shoes are extremely comfortable and fit well and have an apparent very short "break-in" period. I have walked in them distances of approximately a mile at a stretch in them with little difficulty and no "sore spots" to speak of beyond normal. They support well and seem to be very durable thus far. The tread pattern does well on various surfaces and is easy to clean mud and other detritus from it although on smooth and wet surfaces it does leave something to be desired...but then again most tread patterns have issues with that. They do seem a bit warm for hot weather use as they breath just not enough for optimum cooling but I knew that going in. I do not mind trading a bit of cooling for the support and durability they offer.

well and is quite soft and comfortable. The edges around the opening are a little too stiff for wearing without socks, they cause abrasions to spots on my ankle. But as long as I wear socks they're fine. My biggest issue is that they came with a strong chemical smell. I'm guessing it's the adhesive they use on the sole. I had to leave them outside in the sun for several days just for them to be tolerable in my home. They're not as bad now after a few months of wear but they are still smelly enough to be somewhat annoying. However, since I like how comfortable they are, I'll live with it.

Ok but not great quality.
I've had the NB Rappels for just under a year now and while they are very comfortable I am not impressed with the quality. After about 8 months of normal wear, I alternated between these two other pairs of sneakers, the inside lining along the heel is pretty shredded or gone. The soles and outside look fine and they are still usable but I would not buy again.

Good heel, arch support
Good fit, extremely comfortable for outdoor boots. Solid construction, good arch and heels support for a 220lbs person. Tough outsoles. Insoles has adequate cushioning, yet doesn't feel unstable. Good shoes to wear on hard floors and rugged outdoors for a heavy person. Feels a little warm as they don't breathe as good as sneakers with meshed/ clothe upper. Good work shoes for those who does a lot of standing/ walking.

Wonderful
I wear exclusively New Balance because of the firmness of the sides of the shoes- prevents pronation (rolling inward of the foot) which I suffer from. This one is firmer than average, which I LOVE, but the back is low enough that it does not dig in to the heel, or bottom of your calf muscle- I think that's wonderful. It's hard to find a hiking shoe which has a low collar. The toe box is roomy. I've got duck feet, and I can tell you, if my feet fit in there, I think most people's would. Normally I order a 4E but the 2E was fine in these- and feels like my 4E's. I like the tightness of the back of the shoe. For some reason New Balance have figured out that just because you have wide toes you might not have a gigantic heel- so the heel isn't sloppy. Love that. I got these for my son too- he has the same type of feet, and he too was pleased with the fit.

Great Shoe, but buyer beware on returns.
I always take an 11.5 (D) size when it comes to sneaker types of shoes. Ordered this shoe which is fantastic in style and design, however it is way to small and narrow, runs more like an 11 and is tight and pointed near toes.. This is the problem when ordering on line. You lose the ability to try shoes on before you buy and trust that the shoes are made to a standard. Now I have to return a great shoe back to Amazon, and their policy is you cannot exchange them. You must return them and rebuy them at a much higher price. The problem there is the fact that I bought these at a great price on a Gold Box deal for about $45 and now if I want to rebuy them it will cost me about $100.00 or more to get the size that fits, which I do not plan on doing. Not a very good marketing strategy by Amazon to retain dedicated customers.

These shoes have been rarely worn since they were bought to replace my current shoes which are not ready to be replaced. I wore these once just to walk down the street when I noticed a big hole in the side of the sole. Unfortunately, because I buy ahead of time, it is beyond the time I can return these defective shoes. I wonder if this will be a problem with use, but I haven't had that opportunity yet.Be sure to check your soles when you buy them and watch them as you wear them.
