Speak and Spell - can't beat a classic
I recently purchased the Speak and Spell, and it has been such a fun and educational experience! The toy is well-made, with clear, easy-to-understand speech and bright, engaging lights. It’s a great way to help kids learn spelling and vocabulary while having fun. My child loves the interactive games, and I’ve already noticed improvement in their spelling skills. It’s a classic toy that combines learning with play in the best way possible. I highly recommend it to any parent looking for an entertaining, educational gift!

Old School Toy that Still Provides Fun Learning for Young School-Age Kids
This is the same machine that was sold when ET first came out in the movies. My son had one when he was young -- he is 40 now so I got a new one for his 6-year-old who is quite smart and loves figuring out how to spell words. He really enjoyed it, though he only knew a few words. After doing it over and over a few times he remembered some of the words that were new. It was battery-operated--no plug-in charger like most new things have. But the batteries came in the toy so I was pleasantly surprised at not having to put new ones in. It was also good for some grandma and grandson time together.

I ❤ the 80's
Talk about bringing back nostaligic memories! So, it is almost exactly the same as the Texas Instrument version I had in the 80's same words, they picked a lot of tricky words for the average 1st - 4th grader at the highest level. My 6 yr old is sufficiently challenged with level 1 as a supplement to the work we do with physical sight words. There is no way to add words once mastered so no added functionality. I wish they would have maintained the standard plug for earphones. I think I would take this toy on a road trip with us if it had the ability to support headphones, since it doesn't this toy is relegated to rooms I can easily exit, once I have had my fill of the robotic voice and ample volume even on the lowest setting.Pros: Great durable toy, funtionality is easy for the little ones to navigate independently as there are symbols and simple instructions. The keyboard is in alphabetical order, so there is opportunity for little ones, not spelling yet, to keep working on letters (not sounds). The word list is in the instructions so there is opportunity to teach the words and have the toy support the work. I would suggest that a student with diverse abilities could gain from this toy.Cons: as mentioned the lack of a headphone port limits use for environments that don't need quiet.Limited words. Some of the pronunciation of the words are a little challenging like chalk sounds funny.

An old familiar friend…
This was one of the best things I remember about a time in my childhood. I immediately smiled & jumped to order when I saw it. I think it sounds the same but even if slightly different, it doesn’t matter. We don’t reach to nostalgic toys because they were perfect . What I remember is that this was a comforting and familiar friend from long ago. Helped me escape my reality back then and now as a safe Autonomous adult, I’m glad to have it around. Still fun when I need a little bit of a nostalgic good time. Oh yes, and it’s reminder that I made it out of that wretched childhood far better than I would have imagined. Heaven be praised!

Possible factory defect
Bought two separate units and both had issues within a few uses. The commands did not line up with the buttons being engaged and some buttons just would not work at all. It’s unfortunate because I had hoped it was as going to be as reliable as the original -and my daughter was so excited to use it too. Disappointed.

Blast from the past!
It's the same as the one I played with 30 years ago! My kids love it, and the nostalgic sounds take me back!
