– V50 X Action Camera, Native 4K Wifi Underwater 40M EIS Anti-Shake Cam with Touch Screen, Remote Control, Waterproof Case and Mounting Accessories Kit

Has lots of features but is quite easy to use. The menu is much easier to get around than I have been used to and have had a few action cams at lower price end of the market. [ bought mine for £80] Has image stabilisation which is excellent and you can choose to record in 4K which is the best choice although 1080p is acceptable. In 4K it will use up resources quicker so you will need the max sd card of 64gb [ bought the Akaso one off here] Sound is poor. Supplied with loads of accessories including a waterproof case for underwater or heavy rain use. The sticky pads supplied are useless and so I bought some 3M ones on Amazon for a fiver.You may not be able to play 4K back in acceptable quality on your laptop or PC so I got the free open source VLC player installed on my laptop which can play 4K. The 2 battery separate charger is excellent, so you can take a spare battery with you. At time of writing you could also buy separately from Akaso another charger with 2 batteries for £20. I have used action cameras on a bike before but this time used on a mobility scooter. Altogether totally reccomend this action camera

This camera was fab on holiday & allowed us to capture lots of videos whilst snorkeling at the resort, including my hubby swimming with a turtle - any wobble in the footage is his swimming & lack of tech skills.... he nearly didn't capture it at all!!! Simple navigation between the video & picture settings. The App isn't anything amazing and could do with improvement but as far as downloading our content, which is all we needed if for, it was simple & worked well. I had assumed the accessory clip would be compatible with the GoPro accessories but it's a different connector, which is a shame, but luckily we had one we could switch over easily enough - I had read so many reviews ahead of buying this camera that I think my brain was scrambled, so my bad! We got lots of accessories with the camera, so that was a bonus. The only negative we experienced was that the screen goes to sleep after 30secs or so of filming and so you just have to tap the record button again to wake up the screen - there may even be a setting but I've not actually looked yet and so don't let this put you off. It's probably a battery saving mode. On that note, we took one battery out each day & simply charged it overnight. It was nice having the option of a 2nd battery & if we had gone on a proper snorkeling trip then we would have taken both with us but for our snorkeling on the beach each day, the battery lasted. The picture & video quality looks great on my iPhone but we've not viewed it on a larger screen yet - we might not even do that as we tend to have shared albums on our phones. Overall, this is a great alternative to the more expensive options, especially for holiday usage & we're really pleased with our purchase!

The camera kit comes with loads of different attachments for several situations including underwater use. The instructions are concise but clear. The video quality is great but a battery charge lasts about 70 mins so you have to remember to change it. It comes with 2 batteries and a charging unit so expect to get about 2+ hrs of video footage from them. Unfortunately, the remote control unit with my camera arrived faulty and the options were to return the whole kit or accept a sum of money to buy a remote of EBay. The remote would be handy for photos but not so mush for video. Overall, it’s a great camera and cheaper than a GoPro so a good alternative. Mine is mounted to my cycle and captures good footage. Not a bad camera at all for the price.

Firstly, I had the exact same problem that many other people had with this camera, the Please Format SD Card problem, every time you turned the camera off for a while and back on again. Made it impossible to view images on the camera screen or transfer them to a PC / Laptop. I sent an email to Akaso Customer Support and I must say these guys were absolutely incredible. My email was answered within 2 hours with a request for my current firmware number and a photo of the SD card I was using. I sent the information and again got a very fast reply to state that the SD card I was using was fine ( www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07FCMBLV6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) and I was given a link and very specific instructions to update my firmware. After completing the instructions, the problem went away and my camera is now fully functional. Thank you to Akaso Customer Support. Also, after the firmware update, you DO NOT need to remove the SD card from the camera to transfer video or picture files. When you connect the micro USB to USB lead between the camera and your PC / Laptop, a multiple choice comes up on the camera screen asking if you want the camera to be used to Access SD Card ( to transfer files etc ) , PC Camera ( I assume as a web cam ) , or to Charge the Battery inside the camera. Two batteries and an external charger are a godsend for those long bike rides. I use the 720p 30fps option which, after viewing the resultant video via the micro HDMI to HDMI option to my computer monitor, is fine for me. I am currently getting about 98 minutes on each fully charged battery, so over 3 hours of video in total at the stated settings using both batteries. I've used 1080p 60fps option a few times, but I need a bigger SD card as the one I'm using fills relatively much faster than the 720p 30fps, but for short bike rides of, say an hour or so, it's fine. The Electronic Image Stabilisation and Gyroscope settings are absolutely fantastic. Throughout my off-road biking the image stability is solid. The higher the FPS setting, the better the resultant image stability, but as I said, I'm happy at either 720p 30fps or 1080p 60fps. Not used the 2k or 4k options for my bike rides yet until I get a bigger SD card, although for short trials walking around the forests, the results are fantastic. The wrist worn Remote Control is OK, but I don't like using it as I have to take my left hand off the handlebars to press the relevant button on the control, which is worn on my right wrist. Has caused me some off-balance problems on rough forest tracks. I can't really fit it to my handlebars either, so I have relegated it to remote picture and video taking when using the camera on a tri pod. My daughter paid £260 for a Go Pro Hero 7 Black and we did the same bike ride with her using the Black to record at 1080p 60 fps and me doing the same with my Akaso V50X, and we did a second ride at the highest resolution and fps possible. We reviewed the resultant videos on a 40 inch television via the HDMI ports and quite honestly I could not see a darned bit of difference in the performance, with the exception of the Go Pro playback being a little darker than the Akaso. My daughter said she could see a slight difference in the EIS, but I think it was wishful thinking on her part. The only thing the Go Pro could do that the Akaso couldn't is rotate the screen image when the camera was held upside down. My daughter mounts her camera upside down on her handlebars, so that the camera is below the handlebars, and the image rotates accordingly to an upright position. The Akaso doesn't, so if I mount my camera below the handlebars, I have to manually flip the video when reviewing it on my PC, or I just mount it above my handlebars if I can't be bothered to alter the handle bar mounts. If you look at the performance and abilities side by side as we have, then I got the better deal considering that the Go Pro cost two and a half times as much as the Akaso, £260 for the Go Pro against £99 for the Akaso. On a final note. The Akaso comes with a wide variety of mounts to mount the camera almost anywhere in any position, and the water proofing was was tested in 24 feet of water for 40 minutes and came out dry as a bone ( NOTE: I used a few ball bearings and some tissue paper to weigh the water proof case down during the underwater test, didn't want to risk the camera. However, at the end of the test, the tissue paper was completely dry and the case showed no sign of water ingress ). My only negative point is that the sound quality isn't the best, even with an external microphone. It's not a deal breaker but I note it just to be fair. All in all, a brilliant piece of kit which exceeded my expectations. I'm considering getting another as a back up and looking to buy one for my other daughter's birthday in a few weeks. If you have the SD card problem as I stated in my first paragraph, just contact Akaso customer services for instructions on getting a firmware update.

This is a first impressions review of the Akaso V50 X. Firstly the camera and accessories are superbly packaged. The waterproof housing is robust and well thought out with easily accessible buttons. Opening the box you’ll find a quick reference guide, two batteries and the associated charger and USB cable, the remote control and wrist strap, various mounting brackets, straps and fixings. Everything you’ll need in fact to get going on your first action adventure except a micro SD card. Initial camera set-up is intuitive, which is good because the included reference guide is lacking in any real detail. Fortunately Akaso have included a web address in the guide to download the full user manual, which I suggest is well worth getting even if you’re happy to just set-up and go since it gives details of the various ISO settings, video resolutions, etc. Incidentally the touch screen is a real bonus saving much button pressing to get through the various menu options. In use I found switching between the various camera and video modes and resolution options quick and easy. The control buttons are positive and responsive and the audible and visual cues/indicators give assurance that the desired operation is underway. Akaso have thought about the design aspects of the V50 X and have included what are in my opinion several welcome additions, particularly the built-in tripod/mini-pod mount and the sliding battery housing hatch. I also like the look and feel of the operation and selection buttons, although the touch screen makes the majority of button pushing obsolete. I’ve used action cameras under water on various occasions and have found some to be better than others. I can’t wait to take the V50 X to the beach and put it through its paces on a dive. When I do I’ll revisit this review and add to it. Pros: Touch screen, ease of set-up, tripod/mini-pod mount, optional shooting angles. Cons: None found as yet. I have been using an old G*Pr* (model 3) on my bike for ages and was about to upgrade to the recent model (£400-£500). One of the reasons I had hesitated is that the Gpr doesn’t date stamp recordings, or offer the kind of ‘loop recording’ where new recordings overwrite the oldest on the memory card once it fills up. More like a dashcam. The Akazo has these features & more. Image quality is great for me, stabilisation too. It ships with a charger and TWO batteries and more mounts, clamps and bits/bats than I would ever need. Once registered they send you a choice of freebie so I got a second case and now have a mount & case on the handlebars of each of my 2 bikes and just slot the camera in to the one I choose to ride. I have been really impressed with this camera, and saved £££’s. Cons? The only thing which I could mention is that copying movies off the camera to phone via the wifi takes a while - they are big files, but as an example a 3 min movie takes 3 min to copy. So I tend to take out the card & put into the card reader on my computer.

I’m totally clueless about action cameras, but want to buy one to film my weekend walks as I always have a great time walking, singing and dancing along with the music from my headphones . People who see me always have a smile and a laugh. So I asked my granddaughter, who love photography and filming, if she would edit and post videos of my walkings, and she love the idea. So I want a good camera that wouldn’t break the bank. I was impressed by the reviews of the V50X , for a camera that was launched 6 years ago. I’m not disappointed. Camera super easy to set up, very light , the stabilisation is great , lots of accessories. I have nothing to compare with but for a novice like me I think is brilliant. Very good value for money.

I'm rating this one star simply because people tend to read the one star reviews. The camera itself is pretty good, for £80 I don't think you can get better. However, the accessories and mounts are made of that super brittle plastic, after two outings the handlebar mount snapped, arguably this could be due to over tightening, however, without tightening as I did it moved around. The camera itself is good thought, frustratingly stabilisation doesn't work if the camera is in upside down mode. Speaking of the stabilisation, it works pretty well, it doesn't eliminate bumps and shakes, but general road noise is gone. Microphone is utterly useless, especially when in the case. But there is an option for an external mic, but I've not used it. Picture quality is ok, not great, certainly not gopro quality but it's significantly cheaper so you get what you pay for. Menus are clear and easy to use, everything just works pretty well. All it all it does it's job, but I'm going to need to seek out some new mounts that don't shatter when you glance at them a bit funny.
