Is this made of high carbon steel?

I don't know probably not...it is made for casual home use...if you need it professionally I'd spend the money on a high grade tool...you know you get what you pay for...for me it is great...

Is there a sheath available to fit this saw (other than the cardboard one that is included)?

Yes, mine came with a tough, plastic sheath. Good thing, too, as this saw is SHARP! Use with care. It really cuts easily, is very light and has a wonderfully comfortable grip.

Does this handsome little saw cut on the push, the pull, or both?

This saw cuts when you push, pull for chip removal.

Can this be used for hardwood?

Yes it can be used for hardwood in my opinion. I used it for pine and and timber branches. It is sharp and works smooth.
