Classic Design with a surprising IMPROVEMENT
I bought the original design of this tool decades ago when it first came out. Great tool, with one flaw back then. It did not hold up well cutting steel wire. Well that was 30+ years ago. I bought a new one, and was just suprised and delighted to see Gerber made a great classic BETTER. Carbide cutting inserts, for cutting steel wire ! ( like fencing wire, coat hangars etc ) On top of that, the carbide inserts are 3 sided, so if worn, just loosed with included tool, and rotate the insert to a fresh blade. I am a retired Master Mechanic, now in Landscaping. I have wanted another blunt pliar Gerber for 20-something years, and voila ! Gerber EXCEEDED expectations ! I seldom rave in Reviews unless excellence is found. Here you go ! If you need a handy belt multi tool, buy the BEST, get a Gerber ! Buy This Tool ! Great tool, built to give service for a lifetime. ( Ladies: buy your man this ! )

Great multi tool
I replaced one that I had for years….this particular gerber has the right size regular screw drivers for my guns screws. Very well made and solid, just the one I ad for years.

there's my Cell Phone and this Gerber multi tool.
I've had mine for several year and another before that i gave to a friend. These are proven rock solid and I like the black won't reflect light if I'm sorting a problem on stage doing a show. Its basic with everything you need for the quick fix. And the price has gone up 20 dollars over the past 10 years. too cool.

Not EXACTLY what I was expecting
UPDATE: upgraded rating from 3 to 4 stars. It’s growing on me, plus the one handed wrist-flick seems to be working much better now. Just needed to break it in a little. Plus I was walking the dog around the property and it came in very handy when I noticed a couple saplings growing into the fence. The saw blade made quick work of them. So, maybe I’ll eventually get to 5 stars with it, we will see. First thing I noticed when I got it was that "USA" is not stamped anywhere on the tool. The Amazon photos in the product listing show a slightly different tool, one with the "USA" stamping. That kind of turned me off. Yes, the packaging says that it's 'assembled' in the USA, but from foreign parts which is disappointing. Maybe not a big deal to some, but I like to see the "USA" stamping on the stuff I buy, if that's what I'm expecting when I order it. So now it feeling like false advertising on their part and I have some cheap knockoff. I guess I knew what the number/variation of tools was when I ordered it. It's not a huge variety, mostly screwdriver tips and a nail file(?), plus the serrated blade and the regular knife blade, which isn't all that impressive. Oh, and the bottle/can openers. Yippee. The one-hand release for the pliers is a little stiff, so it'll either take some practice or some breaking in to make easier to open with one hand. I guess overall, it's OK. Not great, not horrible. Main gripe is the lack of "USA" stamping. Really, that was what I was buying it for over some other similarly priced multi-tools. I'll still keep it and use it, but I'm going to keep shopping around until I get exactly what I want.

The best of all worlds
To say I've used a lot of multi-tools over the years is a vast understatement. I'm a IBEW Wireman, also a mechanic with 25+ years experience, my late father called me "the master of the mechanical stuff". It doesn't matter if it's an auto electrical repair fix for a stranger in the parking lot of a Home Depot, fixing work electrical circuitry at a family get together, or just random mechanical or electrical repairs during my every day travels I NEED a multi tool on me at all times. The Gerber MP600 is the one I keep going back to, it's not perfect, but it is a perfect balance of tools, weight, cost, availability. Other tools will perform SOME tasks better than the MP600 but my 20+ year experience with around 50 different multi-tools can attest that there is nothing on the market that can perform as well in ALL manner of repairs the same way that the MP600 does. You won't regret the purchase, just buy one. If you're on the fence about which one to buy just get the BASIC one, most of the specialty craft ones are just replacing useful tools with something that you already have in your bag that's dedicated for whatever specialty craft you're going to do (like going out shooting, fishing, etc.). You're going to end up with a useless flip out tool for 99% of the time you're carrying the thing. Just go with the BASIC because it's the best of all worlds. If you need a carbon scraper for when you're out shooting then buy a real one and throw it in your range bag. And for the love of <insert diety of choice> don't buy the EOD version unless you are actually punching holes in C4 and crimping detonators...

Better than expected
I am the type of person that researches things immensely before committing to a purchase. I went back and forth on this one for about 6 months because of the negative reviews I had read. People saying the blade needed sharpening or that things felt loose and inadequate. I finally took the plunge and pulled the trigger, mostly based on what my military friends have told me about this tool. I have no regret of this purchase whatsoever. The tool is beautiful and yes when you first pull it out of the box it does have a slight residue on it. So what, big deal! Wipe it down and move on, the coating is to keep it in good condition for storage. Next, the blade was very sharp, sharper than any Multi-tool I have owned. The pliers at first do not shoot out with one handed operation because the tool is new and still a little stiff. After about 20 times it now comes out without a hitch and is very useful. Last the tool does seem a little loose but according to my military friends it is made this way on purpose. If you get sand or dirt in it you can still easily use the tool in rough situations, By closely examining the tool it does seem that the looseness is built in and does not take away from the sturdiness at all. Overall it would be tough to beat this tool and I can foresee years of use with it. Not to mention you cannot beat the warranty.
