Original Zaatar Spice Seasoning

I can't remember exactly how I came to be interested in Za'atar; it had something to do with some delicious Turkish or Iranian food I had somewhere and was tracking down the different possible seasonings in that meal / bread and landed on Za'atar. I did some research online and then read some reviews on Amazon and tried to find some that was reasonably priced vs reasonably well reviewed. This is product is what I ended up going with--and I was very happy with the results.I used the spice / seasoning mainly for western dishes... like in / on some focaccia bread, in burgers, on roasted potatoes and other vegetable, etc. I've tried it in all types of things and I love the way it flavors just about everything. If you've ever had, say, parmesan / garlic dusted french fries for example, you can do the same with za'atar. Just buy some frozen potatoes of some kind... either fries or tots or whatever... throw them in the oven on a cookie sheet for 15 or so minutes on 375 to 400... until they they are thawed and nearly completely cooked, then dump them off the cookies sheet and into a metal or glass bowl and dust them pretty heavily with some za'atar--then mix / toss thoroughly until completely coated--maybe even add some garlic powder and/or black pepper the mix--then pour them back on to the cookie sheet and bake for another 10 minutes or so (until however you like them; I prefer my fries / tots a bit crunchy). Then take out let cool and then just eat them as is or maybe with your favorite dipping condiment.For the za'atar burgers I took about 1/2 lb of raw ground beef (but would be delicious with ground pork or ground lamb as well), then worked a good amount of this za'atar (and some garlic powder, salt, and black pepper) into the ground beef--by kneading and folding it several times--then made a burger patty out of it, then fried it in a skillet until cooked--flipping a couple of times (but grilling on an open flame would probably be even better)--then added some mushrooms (that I sauteed earlier) and cheese on top... and whatever bread you like (I bought some nice fresh rolls from the bakery)... and whatever condiments you like... and BAM! You have a delicious za'atar burger.I also added it to hummus... just sprinkling on top and then stirring in with a fork... and that was also delicious.LOTS of great options with this seasoning.

Didn't expect to like this so much; expected the flavor to be overwhelming. But it hasn't been! It's a lot more subtle than other Zaatar brands and doesn't have the bitter aftertaste that others do. What's embarrassing is that I like this so much, that I ate half of the 8oz package directly from the bag! Probably not the best way to eat it, but it's that good as a salt-free snack!I went through two 8 oz bags quickly, and though it's a bit expensive, I went ahead and ordered the larger 16 oz cannister.This stuff is awesome when mixed with roasted chickpeas, and very rich when combined with olive oil. These are terrific combinations. This one does not have salt so you might have to add seasoning if you need it (I don't). Folks, this is the best Zaatar seasoning I've had so far. You gotta try this one out!

nice flavorful spice

It’s a rather yummy za’atar blend, but I can’t taste the sumac in it. No one else in my household missed that flavor, though. Four stars.

Great product, we use it in most meals we prepare so money we’ll spent.

This is such good spice for middle eastern dishes. I bought my daughter a second pack of this since she loves to cook.

This spice is fantastic, I totally took a chance buying this when I was looking for some Ethiopian spices on Amazon and I'm glad I did. I love the construction of the container and how it dispenses the spice. It has large enough holes to add a good amount of spice to your dishes quickly. It's not spicy so you can add a liberal amount to anything and it doesn't overpower the dish. But it adds so much flavor to everything and it goes good with practically everything. I use it all the time in soups salads, pasta, veggies, guacamole, etc. I also like the large size because you end up using a lot of the spice and I like the larger quantity. Many spices I would say buy a small size because you want your spices to stay fresh but this one will be all gone in 6 months the way I'm consuming it. If you are a spice person like me this needs to be one to give a try, you will not be disappointed. By the way the company Amboseli Foods is very courteous and followed up to make sure I was satisfied. All around 5 stars.

The package size is just right.This is so incredibly tasty! I’m right now adding it to all dishes, that’s how much I like it. (I know it’s just a phase and it will pass 😂 But right now I’m enjoying it so much!)
