This is my favorite leash. I own two of these - one in this current model, and one in the previous model (plastic buckle instead of metal). I use them in conjunction with a harness on my large 85 pound male greyhound (he is slim, but very tall). He is strong, with a high prey drive - which means that he will sometimes take off on a moment's notice after a squirrel or other small critter. This leash is extremely sturdy and withstands his impromptu sprinting. I am never worried that it is going to break or snap. The clasp is secure, but heavy. I can see this being a problem for smaller dogs that don't use a harness, but it isn't a problem for my big dog.As for a comparison between this and the older model, the main difference is the clasp. The older model has a bulkier, plastic buckle, as opposed to this slim, metal hook. I prefer the metal hook - it feels sturdier. The leash nylon is also different; the older model has a silkier, thinner strap which I preferred because it was less stiff. The nylon on the new leash is fine, though.Highly recommended!

The Best Leash Available on Amazon!
This may be my best dog related purchase (maybe even overall Amazon purchase) ever! The amount of features offered on the leash speak for itself! The ability to wrap the handle and buckle it around your waist perfect for jogging or loose leash training, the second handle for a close contact point, the design for the clip, not to mention the beautiful design! This is the best bang for your buck you’ll find on a leash from Amazon!(Also, if you’re worried about sizing with your waist, I have a 48 inch waist and it fits comfortably around me, still with plenty of loose leash for my dog!)

Worth it? For me, yes.
Great leash, surprisingly versatile. The loop end with adjustable closure is great for running hands-free. It adjust easily, so switching between human-users with different waist sizes, or back to the normal handle, is convenient. Tying up to a fence or tree is so much easier with this leash than by doing the loop-through-the-handle method with a normal leash. I also like hooking the leash to my backpack when hiking, and adjusting the length so the dog has room to move, but isn't tripping himself. The low handle is helpful too, for when I need to restrain an enthusiastic dog. For my 70lb medium-tall dog, it is perfectly located. So far (8 months) the leash shows little sign of wear and tear; I expect it to last a long time. It's expensive, but it's awesome!

Good, though best for larger dogs
Well-constructed. The talon hook works remarkably well -- quick to attach and detach. My main complaint is the size, which is a problem because it only comes in one size. For a small (15-pound) dog, the talon hook seems overly-large, and the leash overly-wide. I'd love to see a smaller version of both. The loop can also be a little difficult to detach -- you have to pinch the fabric to make it flat before you can coax it over the hook at the end of the buckle. No fun when you're in a hurry. I might try hitting it with some spray starch or polyurethane to stiffen it a bit.

Love this leash!
My dog loves to chase deer and groundhogs and this leash is perfect for him! I love the clip on the handle that allows me to attach him to something like a picnic table without a fuss. And the clip to attach it to his collar (we have the matching collar and I recommend that as well!) is easier to operate than his old one...especially when he is tippy tapping around excited for his walk. The grab handle at the dog end of the leash is perfect for when I need better control of him or need to make him feel more secure. I believe he has some fear of other dogs that manifests as leash aggression, but this seems to help him feel more protected. I love everything about this leash!

Thinner but more durable
I read alot of the reviews of this product before ordering. I had the exact leash for nearly 8 years, but it was getting gross (even though I washed it in the washing machine a few times) and a tear that happened years ago was finally getting on my nerves (I had just tied it in a knot where the tear was). I was concerned by comments calling it flimsy or less durable. It is true it is flatter (less soft, less puffy) than the previous one, which makes it slightly more awkward in the hand. I use the waist wrap around option and it works the same. I think the flatter weave is more durable, less likely to tear/cut or shred. Being flatter also means it takes up a little bit less space and I can fit it in a drawer the old one would not fit in. I guess its just a trade-off; do the gains made by making it flatter/tighter weave outweigh the possible reduced comfort - it did for me.

Sturdy, multi-use leash. Cute too!
We love this Ruffwear leash. It’s not only cute but practical! Our favorite feature is that it is multi-use in that we can change the handle size to either go around a tree, around our waists, or just use it as a normal leash handle size. We have no complaints.

Used to be a fan of Ruffwear... not anymore... SUPER cheap materials
I've used Ruffwear leashes and packs for quite a while. This is now my 4th "flat out" leash (not sure why I bought it) after having the others tear fairly quickly. Seems that Ruffwear has decided to follow the rest of the pet supply merchants and build super cheap low cost products as of late. At least that's sure what this thing feels like.Their other leashes, the roamer leash, also took a significant quality dive and became much lower quality. Thinner and easier to break. This is my last one. Too bad there aren't any quality products out there anymore now that Ruffwear has decided to reduce quality to increase profits. They've now lost another customer.
