Negative Self-Talk and How to Change It Review: Easy and helpful read on recognizing negative talk and changing your ways - After the 2020 year of negativity wore me thin, I had anxiety, and angry all the time, felt under appreciated, and overwhelmed that I was sick of feeling this way by November. I wanted to stop thinking so negatively and wanted to think more positive. Keyword is the desire or want to stop thinking negative. This is the only way I believe it works. You have to WANT to change your way of thinking. It won't happen overnight, it won't happen unless you want to change. It's a lot of work, and we all have our low days, so don't expect immediate results. With that being said, I bought a bunch of different positive thinking books. This is one of them. I have to say reading this book opened my eyes to the recognizing the negativity thrown around so much. I can't believe how much negative thoughts are around when you aren't even thinking about it. There are sections of this book that helped me understand why mother is the way she is - even going to multiple therapy sessions over many years, never taught me as much as this book has. It is well written that I couldn't put it down after I started it, finished in a day and 1/2 with a full time job. The best part is learning why I'm negative and how just hearing it in the back of your mind, can influence the negativity to the forefront. It explains the different stages of negativity and I can see why my mother would be as negative as she is, but she lacks the desire to change her thoughts. I'm one of those daughters that doesn't want to be like her mother, ends up being her mother anyway. This is one of those books that teaches you how to identify and how to change it. I bought a copy for my sister. I also gave one to my daughter. I don't want her to become like my negative self (that I'm working very hard to change). I also bought Emotional Blackmail by Susan Forward Phd, and it is pretty good read as well. I bought Positive Thinking by Amelia Torres - horrible read. Not for me. The book is 77 pages long and it has taken me over 4 months to get through it. I'm sure it works for some, but I'm not one of them. Maybe I will get through my other books, and come back to this one. I also bought the other book - What to say when you talk to yourself by Shad Helmstetter, PhD, which I haven't read yet. I'm trying to stay in one book at a time. As an added bonus in one of the reviews I read for one of these many positivity books I bought, to get a book, Let That Sh*t Go by Monica Sweeney, cute little journal to write in for when you are trying to find your happy place. She has 2 others that I also invested in, which I also recommend. I'm just trying to do my part to make 2021 better, by investing in myself. Couldn't we all use a little more positivity in our lives? Review: Exceptional! - -Very interesting and enlightening. -Wish I had read this book years ago. -Positive self-talk is the goal. -Thank you so much for sharing these tools.

Short easy to read!
This book is short, easy to read and most of it, is about why people have negative self talk, author mentions his understanding of 3 stages, and effects. There’s little about how to change it on your own. But author suggests his website and prerecorded suggestions that you might want to try. Then there are few FAQ’s too.

Incredibly Simple
In this short book Shad Helmstetter presents the solution to negative self talk in concise, simple terms. Being simple doesn’t mean it’s necessarily easy. The author does a great job explaining neuroplasticity and how the brain works. He shows the reader how to assess and replace the negative with the positive. I like the book and find the suggestions easy to understand.

Simplistic written, just some general info that can be summarized in one page
Generally a good read for someone who is a "beginner" in the process of negative thinking.. although I do not agree that you can change everything just by forcing yourself to think differently. There are a lot of things that are involved, like doing the things you want to receive for others first, so they will come back to you multiplied, or humbling yourself. When you say to yourself "I am great" "I can achieve anything", instead of negative thinking, it's just like you "lie" to yourself, and not recognize the reality where you are at the moment. Start with what you have, and build up. You cannot cover your situation just by saying "i am great, i can do anything". It doesn't always work that way. And besides that, there is a short story about a person who is falling off a 100 story building, and frightened, screaming, when he reach the 50th floor, someone gets off the window and say "Don't worry! Just catch onto yourself!" - that is why I think the information in this book is limited, and written just to fulfill many pages, so you can sell it as a book, and not an article. But maybe for someone else can work in a better way

A more scientific approach
I've read a few self help books after listening to a Facebook video everyday. The person doing the video talked the talk but I later found out he doesn't walk the walk. Self promoting and making a lot of money was his goal. I'm extremely thankful to him for helping me find the path and in the infamous words of Yogi Berra, when I got to the fork in the road, I took it. This book combines my spiritual beliefs and science which basically are intertwined. I too, like my first teacher of positivity am venturing into the world of writing. Only my goals are different., I want people to enjoy reading my books as much as I love reading. If I make money, many abused and abandoned dogs will be sheltered, sponsored and found forever homes. Thank you for this book because if you read my first book, you will realize that my start in life was horrific and my recent hopes were pipe dreams. Now I know that the universe has a lot of faith in my success, as now I do.

I first studied What to Say When You Talk to Your Self. I confirmed why most of us behave ineffectively due to the fact that we receive “instructions” from parents, family, friends, media, all of which “create the programs” followed by our subconscious, which works as a computer that follows perfectly well its instructions without thinking or analyzing consequences. I know that because I programmed the fist Univac transistor computer back in the 1950’s. I made lots of errors in my first programs and I know that the computer did exactly the programmed errors I wrote. The process of debugging the programs to correct errors is equivalent to the appropriate self talk to correct or eliminate our false beliefs, our insecurities and improve ourselves. One of my books (in Spanish) is titled Succeed or Fail with the Power of Your Thoughts. One of the ideas I mention is that great life winners, without knowing how, incorporate qualities like perseverance, grit, discipline, due to defining for themselves transcendent or powerful goals and their determination to realize them paying the necessary price. Reading the books of Shat will no doubt help me greatly to improve the quality of my life (since never is too late) and hopefully the life of my dear grandchildren!

Empieza por la página 45. Luego de que llega (supongo que) a la ultima página, aparece la tabla de contenidos. Mal ensamblado. La devolución supongo que me sale más cara que el libro...

This is not a book, it's an unnecessarily long and depressingly obvious attempt by the author to lure you into subscribing to his (paid) "self-talk streaming service". Forget about seeing anything remotely scientific in these stream of banality.

Beside some interesting facts about self-talk I also liked the short questionaire on how someone estimates the self-talk in different areas. The examples on how someone could improve were helpful. IMHO most people who are struggling in one or other area of their lives, could benefit from this book...
