I'm confused by the table of features, which model of the Samsung 49" monitors is the best? I'm not concerned with the price, just want the best.

Be aware the number in the name is the series 90, 93, 95 Additionally the 90 is 120hz 1800r, 95 is 240hz 1000r. Also of note the letters at the end do NOT denote versions (Older/Newer), but do specify the preset region & power cable supplied: e.g. SSUXEN is the UK designation. As for the latest firmware version, that is easily fixed with a Sandisk* 16gb usb flash drive formatted to FAT32, in the Samsung firmware download's .zip is an .img file, that .img file should be the only one on the usb, when placed in the service usb port of the monitor (95's furthest from the screen) then you can upgrade the monitors firmware with the PC off. * Sandisk variant personally recommended & known to work.

How can you customise so you can have a 16:9 in the middle with a slice either side

I think the question is not clear what the goal is. Are you asking for split screen so middle would be one input or one computer and on the side another computer ? If this is what you asking this is not possible. The screen has support for PBP (Picture by picture). If you think that you have 49inch screen estate you do following in the menus. 1. Enable the PBP and define if the PBP and define Aspect Ratio. 16:9 etc. 2. You define your sources 3. now your screen will be split depending on those. I can't emphasise enough that cable matters. I would suggest you also looking at the source input and get brand new cables. Def has been my experience.

The samsung website states "set weight with stand 15 kg". what is the weight without the stand ?

The stand is quite heavy so I would guesstimate at around the 10 - 11kg mark for the display without the stand.

How do i know if it will work with my laptop in the native resolution of the screen? (mine is thinkpad yoga s1).

As long as you are using a mainstream os such as windows the os will make sure that it runs natively
