Outstanding taste; larger-than-normal protein amount!
Absolutely the BEST protein shake in existence! I've tried them all, and 99% suffer from the same problem—unpleasant taste, even a little: chalky taste, bitter taste, chemical taste, etc. These Pure Protein ones do not. At all. The "frosty chocolate" flavor ones I get are the absolute best of all the flavor varieties, and there is not one bit of an aftertaste or anything other than rich, sweet, delicious chocolate taste. Trust me on this; you'll love them! The other major reason I give these a 5-star review is because they have 35g of protein, more than any other protein drink of the same size. Most 12-oz or even 16-oz protein drinks range from 10 to 28g of protein, give or take. Not these—they're a nice, healthful 35g of protein, which is why they make excellent outright meal replacements & not just supplements like a snack or similar. I have been ordering these for over 6 years, at least, and love them! You will too. They're perfect as that protein boosting drink, or you can even use them as a meal replacement. UPDATED FEBRUARY 2023 I used to get this via monthly Subscribe and Save for around $22 to $28 per 12-pack. However, around late summer/early fall 2022, Amazon removed this product from its Subscribe and Save program. The sole reason for this action was due to the price of a 12-pack skyrocketing to just under 50 bucks! To say I was shell-shocked would be an understatement. As a result, I no longer purchase this product from Amazon, which really disappoints me, because as I've stated earlier, this is the best-tasting protein shake out there AND the one with the highest amount of protein at 35 grams. Why its price literally doubled here on Amazon is baffling. Because of that, I have had to purchase it elsewhere. It's still expensive where I now buy it, but it's at least less than Amazon's cost. UPDATED AUGUST 2, 2023 Within the last month, the price of this 12-pack has increased THREE times, skyrocketing to its current $95. It went from $78 to $89 to its current price on Aug. 2nd of $95, all in the last 4 weeks alone. That's absolutely insane! Factor in the sales tax, and who the heck is going to pay a hundred bucks for a 12-pack of protein shakes? I'm tempted to order the 12-pack of similar protein shakes advertised here and fortunately made by the same company, Pure Protein, to see how THOSE taste. Those come in the cardboard or paper-based, individual containers and are advertised here in a "rich chocolate" flavor option. Granted, they contain 14% less protein (30g compared to 35g) than the ones in the cans here, but that shouldn't be a major issue.

Cost effective and rather tasty
I bought this as an alternative to protein power because it's kind of a pain to measure out 12 oz of milk, dump a scoop of powder in, use an immersion blender, and then drink it, plus have clean up afterwards. This is far more convenient since I don't have to keep milk stocked and I can just grab one out of the fridge and go. At 160 calories, with 35 grams of protein, it's got a great protein to calorie ratio. You'd think with only 160 calories, it'd taste chalky, but it doesn't. It's actually pretty tasty and I don't just mean in comparison to other protein shakes. I would say it actually tastes good, especially the strawberry. It's got a creamy sweet taste to it and if someone just handed it to me in a glass, I would think it was strawberry milk made with skim milk. I thought the cookies and cream left something to be desired, but both the strawberry and vanilla are on par with each other, and the chocolate is just a step below. If someone handed me the chocolate in a glass, I wouldn't think it was chocolate milk, but I also wouldn't think it was a protein shake either. As far as cost goes, at first glance it seems like it's more per serving than comparable protein powder, but I've done the math and it's not (at least on the protein powder I buy). Pure Protein shakes are about $1.65 per serving (for subscribe and save, at the time of this review). Comparable protein powder is $1.12 per serving. Then, depending on the milk you get, whether it's organic, or almond, or whatever, it's anywhere from 50 to 75 cents a serving (12oz for protein powder, not talking about an 8oz serving of milk) so you're looking at the same price or even more AND it's far more work. Not to mention it doesn't taste as good, imo. I'll be subscribing to this stuff until the cows come home (cuz then I'll get milk for free and it'll be cheaper to buy the protein powder)!

My go to shake for sustaining long-term weight loss.
So my nutritional requirements are something like 100g of protein on 1200 calories a day as part of a long term 100lb plus weight loss strategy. This shake is one of my go to protein shakes because it packs 35 grams of protein in one serving and also is affordable. First, since the name is "Frosty Chocolate" it implies you should be refrigerating these. Refrigeration isn't required, but they do taste better when cold. I keep some in my fridge especially during the summer when i need a cold refreshing beverage. However, I also find these acceptably tasty when I have to just throw them in my bag on the way to work so I have a midmorning snack to drive away the munchies. On days that I eat oatmeal, I also will use this instead of milk to give my cereal a chocolatey kick. Then I don't need to add sweetener or other junk to make the cereal delightful. I have also mixed it with double strength plain gelatin powder to make jigglers. These are fun for me to eat and let me get my protein in a nonboring way. Try it and treat your inner child.

Good
This has a good protein to carb ratio (35 grams of protein to only 5 grams of carbs, two of which are from fiber), so if you are doing a low-carb or keto diet, it is great for that. The flavor is okay, but the stuff does settle at the bottom of the cans, so you definitely want to shake it up before you put the cans in the fridge and a few minutes before you drink it. It is not carbonated so it will not spray all over the place if you shake it before you open it, but if you do try to open the can right after shaking it, a bit may spray out the top so you want to do it over a sink. But, if you shake it and let it sit for a minute or two, that will not be an issue. I definitely recommend drinking it cold, because it tastes much better cold than it does warm.

Average taste, a bit chalky. Several cans had small dents.
