I researched different tools and this one had good reviews so I gave it a try
This thing works as designed! I am an IT person that has been working from home for a long time. I use a laptop when on the road and have used a second monitor attached to my laptop for years when I'm in my home office. I bought a new monitor a couple of months ago and I figured I would hook up the new monitor up as a 3rd monitor. I researched different tools and this one had good reviews so I gave it a try. Flawless installation and has worked perfectly since I got it. I liked it so much I ended up buying another identical monitor to the new one I had purchased so the resolutions match. Awesome tool and would recommend if you work from home or just need multiple monitors. These are connected to my docking station and the monitors fire up when I attach my laptop to the docking station.

Works better than expected
Its not perfect but I wasn't expecting perfection. I had researched this kind of adapter fairly well prior to purchasing it. My goal was to add a third monitor to my 2011 MacBookPro. From my research I understood their would be some limitations. The only issue I have found so far is that there is some flickering when certain things are displayed. For example, when I open a new tab in Safari and it displays my top sites, that part of the Safari window flickers. Since I don't stay there long it doesn't matter. My setup is the 2011 MacBookPro (17") with an Asus HDMI 24" LCD attached to the Thunderbolt port plus and an old ViewSonic 19" LCD (1440x900) attached via the StarTech USB to DVI adapter. The ViewSonic LCD is hanging on a Vertical Dual monitor stand from easymounlcd.com. At some point I plan to replace the ViewSonic display with a higher resolution 24" one.

Perfect for Adding an Extra Display
Bought this as a gift for my dad, who needed a second monitor for his office. Setup was super simple — plug and play. The image quality at 1080p is crisp and clear, and it doesn’t lag even when streaming videos. He loves it!

Does the job.
I purchased this to allow my early 2011 MacBook Pro 15" to have a second external screen. It was fairly easy to install and I do get a second monitor online using it which was my goal. My only complaint about it, and I was expecting as much, is that the pointer movement can be less than smooth at times on it when moving the mouse around, it seems to have some minor color distortions with transparency on the toolbars, and of course, video can get a little bit jumpy. But overall it does the job and I didn't have to buy two thunderbolt monitors to get my external displays which means this saved me a lot of money.

This works for Mac/OSX
I have wasted a lot of hours trying to find a device that would allow me to add a 3rd dell monitor to my iMac, giving me 4 monitors in total. This adapter works. 2 dell monitors are connected via thunderbolt cables into the back of the iMac, and the 3rd one is connected via this USB to DVI adapter by Startech. I installed the latest drivers on their website, which are more up to date than the ones provided in the box. I don’t see any noticeable lag yet, and even if there was, the screen that uses this adapter is not used for my primary programs. If I do find any lag issues later I will report back. I want to note that, OSX does not allow daisy-chaining dell monitors, so this is really your only option.

Got this to put an additional screen on an old MacBook 2008.
I use my laptop as my desktop and have wanted for some time to have 2 solid displays at least on it. For a while I ran with a 23" panel and the lid of my MBP open which worked good, but as I'm getting older and the eyesight is getting shaky, I really wanted a 2nd 23" display. Unfortunately, on the 2008 Macbook, you've only got the one display port to do stuff with, and such began my quest for "how the heck do I get a second display on this thing". I eventually settled on finding a USB to *something* device and chose this. I have to say the results are pretty nice for what I was looking for. You're probably not going to want to watch video or game on this (in fact, I'm pretty sure if you read the tech specs you'll see that they say that), but even if you do say start a video on this display, its not terrible, just a little choppy (still kinda watchable). Its fine for reading documents, coding, surfing the web (again maybe just avoid video) etc.

I obtained all of there recommended drivers, and firmware to try and get things ...
I have contacted both Amazon, startech and Display port about the short comings of this unit. I obtained all of there recommended drivers, and firmware to try and get things to work. It worked perfectly in a 2007 winXP Pro 32 bit box using a PCI card. The primary use that I needed it for was trying to "display" some files off a DELL M6600 precision, Win7 Pro 64 bit, which uses a M8900 AMD card for all video duties that blacked out. The non install of drivers failed to installed because of the Dell specific firmware, and trying to disassemble the complete laptop to isolate the vid card proved unfruitful. I ended up buying a replacement $300 ebay special M6600 as a work around, reinstalling AUTOCAD 3D onto the "newer" laptop Not giving up, I then tried this unit on a crommell micro pc running win&Pro 64 bit on a dual atom processor. As To be expected, not enough horsepower but I had better luck connecting the PC to the VGA port on my monitor than what i did for the DELL

Consigliato!

It was one of my best shopping at Amazon.ca. Finally I have 2 monitors connected to my MacBook. Once I close the MacBook the screen is getting shrunk and I get 2 black spots on top and bottom of my screen on the monitor connected to Startech. That’s the only concern I have. But I am happy and leave my MacBook open. I’ll have 3 monitors!!! P.S. After a week I started to have a problem with my MacBook. The screen started to glitch. It was my MacBook, not Startech. I had to return it. Again this is a very nice product and I was happy with it.
