Great Monocular!
This thing was so inexpensive that I had to buy it. And I wasn't disappointed at all. It is sturdy, clear and portable, well-constructed and comfortable to hold. I even dropped it in water and, after drying it out, it still functioned just fine! It comes with a nice little carrying case - nothing super special, but adequate - and a strap as well. I'm not into the technical aspects of these things; I just think it works great! Images are clear and focus is easy. I love to take this thing on hikes and it's even small enough to keep it in a jacket pocket without it feeling cumbersome. If you're looking for an inexpensive and great product for bird watching or spying on whatever your heart desires, you can't go wrong with the Tasco monocular!

Decent, usable, simple
The Tasco Essentials 10x monocular is good for general observation. It works well for observation of aircraft around airfields, my main usage. It also works well just to spot what's around you. Out in the general world it works well for low flying aircraft. The optics are clear, and scratch free, the focus mechanism works well. Single handed operation works well for me, but may not for others - just depends on how much dexterity you can muster up. If you're used to using binoculars, you might find you need a slightly steadier hand on a monocular - but that's up to you. Optically - it's what you expect and is perfectly adequate. Elements are in fact glass, but as usual around this price range exhibit chromatic aberration, but it's well controlled for the price point. I do suggest usage in good lighting conditions. In the dark - it won't be as good as you want. But, any larger lens elements for better low light operation would increase weight and decrease portability. The rubberized coating reduces the chances of dropping it - along with the wrist strap. I also expect it to survive falls onto ground cover, or carpet. Concrete - no idea - good luck. Additional features: *Peel back rubber eyecup for glasses users. Beware, do not _pull_ on the rubber eyecup - it will come off, but a spot of epoxy will fix that. (Knocked one star for shoddy adhesives work) *Lightweight *Holster *Wrist strap (included, but optional, has clip), and wrist strap attachment on monocular - essential so you don't drop it.

Great Value, yes buy
Did a quick test and it definitely works as intended. Magnification looks pretty good and seems to match what is advertised. This is an excellent value as I was only wanting to buy this for very casual and infrequent usage. I would buy this again.

Great buy for under 7 bucks.
Very decent pocket size monocular. You probably can't beat it for $6.99. They're normally $10.99 at Walmart, so I couldn't pass it up! I actually got two of them. One had a little residual glue under the eye piece armor so it wouldn't turn without stretching the armor on the body of the monocular. The glue machine at the factory must have dribbled a bit too much. I eventually worked it loose by gently turning back and forth. No damage occurred during this process and it's fine now. Also the eye cup on the same one is a bit out of round from being smooshed a bit too long in the bubble pack. I suppose that will eventually correct itself too. Hey, for $6.99, I can live with it. The optics on both are nice and clean. No dust or dirt like in some others this cheap. The image is very good for 25mm. The glue issue on the stuck one and the fact that there are no lense caps, was my reason for taking off a star. They do however, include a belt pouch. For the price, you really can't go wrong. Especially for pocket sized convenience. Keep in mind that with a small lense size of only 25mm (less light is captured), it's best suited for daytime viewing or spotting for a larger, more serious optical device. If you want better viewing at dusk or dawn, you'll have to opt for a much larger monocular with a 42mm, 50mm or larger exit lense. Anything larger than 60mm, usually gets you into a spotting scope. You can get a pretty decent Chinese12x50 monocular for under $20, but it's not going to fit in your pocket. Also, keep in mind that if you get one with a zoom, the image will become dimmer, as you zoom out further. A fixed power design is always better if you know what you really need for length. Yeah, yeah. That's what she said. Lol. 8x,10x and 12x are my favorite, as they don't shake the image as much as higher powered monoculars. An extra plus on this purchase, is the fact that I got it from the TASCO STORE (on amazon) and not a third party retailer. It's nice buying from the company that actually manufacturers the product. Overall, for it's intended purpose, I'm very happy with this purchase.

Quality control problems?
Given the generally positive reviews on this product I decided to take the plunge, given the cheap price. I was excited at first, as the product did seem fairly solid and well put together (despite having a plastic chassis underneath the rubber). At first glance, everything seemed normal. I was able to view close up objects with ~10x magnification. However, when I focused on objects greater then 5 meters out, I was unable to get a clear picture, no matter were I placed the focus dial. Either they placed the focusing elements to close together, or the gears for the focusing mechanism were not seated corrected. Needless to say I was very disappointed as this shortcoming renders the monocular essentially useless. I can only guess this happened because of poor quality control, and that a small percentage of people will get bad units...either that or none of the positive reviewers bothered to look at things more then 5 meters out!

Los Materiales se sienten de mala calidad, la imagen es muy mala. No esta a la altura de la marca Tasco. Lo regrese.

Great to keep in your pocket ready to use. Small, so don't expect super crisp optics. Does what I expected it to do and more.

Good image with only a little chromatic aberration at night. Light gathering is good. Lightweight.
