Gatco 856A Latitude II 30" Grab Bar, Chrome/ADA Compliant Wall Mount Stainless Steel 30" Safety Grab Bar for Bathroom

Great looking satin finish grab bar compared to your traditional commercial bars you see in most public places. Installed a 48" one in my parent's shower using 4 Tapcon screws per plate into CMU blocking, and it is solid as a rock. The bar is only as good as the installation, so you MUST have proper blocking or backing in the wall to allow any grab bar to perform when someone puts their full body weight on it. Recommend a quality right angle drill bit to help make installation of the fasteners easier.

We installed two of these bars in our new shower. A 36" one is horizontal located 3 feet off the floor on the back wall of the shower. It is so nice to either lean against or to grab. Since this was a new shower, I had the plumber install 2" x 6" PT wood backing between the metal studs before the new wallboard and tile were installed. There is no way this bar can come loose. (but see below for recommendation if you don't have stud or other wood backing). The 18" bar Gatco 864 Marina Grab Bar, Satin Nickel, 18-Inch was installed vertically about 4 feet off the floor and 6" inside the shower curb on the end wall opposite the shower head.This is a quality product both in looks and function. The finish coordinates perfectly with the other fixtures (Gatco and Hansgrohe) in our new shower. It has the looks and feel of quality. It represents excellent value. The 1-1/4" diameter looks much better than the bulky 1-1/2" diameter of other bars.If you have to mount this (or any other) grab bar into a tile wall without stud or other backing, I highly recommend using Snaptoggles by Toggler Toggler Snaptoggle Toggle Bolt and Drywall Molly (Pack of 4). They may cost slightly more than other fasteners (like the standard wing toggles) but they are "snap" to install. The two big benefits of Snaptoggles are (1) that you can mount and remove the fixture you are mounting without disturbing the fastener base and (2) only a 1/2" hole has to be drilling in the tile shower wall. For a shower, I highly recommend using stainless steel bolts. And put silicone sealant on the fastener and fixture back before mounting.

Looks beautiful in chrome in our shower and is very substantial. Would recommend for stability getting in and out of the shower or bathtub
