No, the version I purchased is perfect for iaido training but it is not sharp. I would be careful about poking with it, however.

This is made in China and currently, 90+% swords in the US market are made in China due to Japan is not allow carbon content blade to be exported also too pricy.

I've read all the reviews and some say the sword's tip is sharp/pointed and some say it is not. Which is it?

It's not sharpened. It's a blunt edge knife. It has a sharp tip just like how a pencil can be sharp, so if you try hard enough, you can impale someone!
