Poor Reviewers Don't Know What They're Buying
I've been using my Behringer XENYX 802, without issue, for about 10 years for a DJ set up and just updated to the X1204-USB. Notice I said UPDATED not UPGRADED. Same quality as my 802 but 4 unbalanced and 2 balanced inputs. As well as aux send/rtns and all that. USB is great for recording live streams or events. Included DAW is free... so, I wouldn't expect it to change your life. Overall, and despite the excess amount of poor reviews, this is a GREAT PRODUCT, as far as affordable mixing goes.Sound quality is exactly what you SHOULD expect from a $179 mixer. This isn't studio quality but I've had no noise issues.Put simply, if you know what you're doing, this is good bang for your buck. BUT... if all you're doing with it is streaming, etc. and don't have experience with audio mixing you're going to either A) Need to take the time to learn how to use it properly OR B) Need to consider buying something simpler for your needs. Reading through a lot of the bad reviews, it's clear most reviewers could have benefited from some knowledge in gain structure and mixer routing (among other things). TRY YOUTUBE!!This is great for event production (weddings, corporate events etc.), Karaoke, SMALL bands, DJs (bars, nightclubs, etc.) ... so basically SMALL PA systems. If you're looking for a mixer for your home recording studio, or larger systems. I'd recommend you spend more and get a better mixer, as this one is more of an entry-level product. Finally, Behringer makes quality, affordable products. It's not top of the line, but people should really educate themselves before leaving bad reviews. It's not Behringers fault you don't know how to use their product. But, most assuredly, the majority of their customer base does.

Updated Opinion
Initially I had a bad unit - it was buzzing and chirping and had issues inside, I had that fixed and have been using the unit for some time now. I have to admit - it is a good mixer.I got mine and went out and bought a much more expensive mixer when it had its problems, in the meantime I was upset and I left a negative review, then after a while I had the behringer replaced, when I did, I decided to compare it - sound to sound, apples to apples with a mixer that cost almost 3x as much, you know what? it sounded cleaner. It offers a good clean USB interface - it is not easily susceptible to usb interferenceThe EQ worksThe one knob compressor worksThe effects are, well, okay? It's a solid tool for the money and a lot quieter than you might think. Well worth what I paid for it.Probably the best part of behringer is the company though, they replace units or repair them w/o hesitation, they are rock solid in this respect.

Perfect small mixer
I needed a small mixer for a specific purpose: using the mic preamps to get acoustic signals into my guitar pedalboard. Yes, I'm talking playing mic'ed up trumpet through a wah wah pedal here, folks. This works great for the task. Putting a vocal mic through a multi-effects pedal is also quite a bit of fun if you're into coming up with new unusual sounds like I am. I own a few other mixers, but this one is perfect for this purpose. Small footprint, built-in effects to play with, familiar controls, it's all here. At this price point, I couldn't ask for anything more: any additional features would just add to the size and price of the unit. Behringer does it again!

Excellent Value - Very pleased
I've been using the X1204USB mixer for a few weeks now, and I must say I am extremely pleased with the product. This has enough options/features that is certainly takes a bit of time to get a feel for everything this product has to offer.Key items:USB connectivity - The sound quality that comes across from the USB connection is superb. I'm not sure why so many reviews talk about having a hard time setting this up (I do admit that I ignored the drivers that came with the mixer and got the latest drivers from the Behringer website). There is a button controlling the USB feed into the main mix (the buttons controlling the USB signal flow are the red ones on the right, below the effects generator). In my 'I don't want to read the manual haste', all I did was plug in the mixer, hooked up a guitar and the USB, once it connected to the PC, started playing the guitar and flipping switches until I got signal to come out on the PC. If you want to hear playback from the PC back to the mixer while you are playing, make sure you select that signal feed in the monitor group (you have 3 options, Main Mix, Aux 3+4, and 2TR/USB).Effects Generator: good quality, I see this being used mostly for live performances in my case as you can layer in the same or better effects with you DAW and might as well record a clean signal so you can 'futz' with it later. Even so, the reverb and chorus sound pretty solid.Documentation: This is one of the main reasons this didn't get 5 stars... The documentation provided is lacking, but there is a comprehensive manual on the website.Included Software: Second reason this didn't get 5 stars. The energyXT2.5 Compact Behringer Edition DAW that comes with the mixer is relatively useless. By 'compact', they mean 'we will show you about 5% of what this can do, but continually recommend you drop the cash for the full version'. If you aren't ready to drop for a high end DAW like Pro Tools, then stick with the open source Audacity (also included) and use the VST plug ins that come with the CD.All in all, I am very pleased with this purchase. Amazon had it for about $40 cheaper that Guitar Center (and Prime eligible, which was key). I 100% recommend a beginner using this item as their entry into digital recording, as well as a solid choice for any small group that wants to perform at the local bar.
