12 Pack Basswood Carving Blocks

The wood seems sturdy, yet workable. I got this for my son in hopes that he would pick up his late grandfather’s whittling hobby, and while it’s a gift for Christmas, I think it will be perfect for that. I would recommend for any beginning whittler.

Soft wood and came fast. Great for carving.

I bought these for my 85 year old freind who had to go into assisted living home. She loves to stay busy and whittle away her time. She said they were perfict.

This is my first attempt at woodcarving. The blocks are exactly as described, containing a good variety of sizes for undertaking a variety of projects. The basswood is either a bit harder than I expected or my new Flexcut knives are not as sharp as I expected, so I found that making V-cuts or Stop-cuts was not as easy as I expected. Unfortunately, I managed to cut too deeply once and splintered off a corner, but I think it's fixable. I did not expect my first attempt to be perfect, but it is coming along, and I'm looking forward to attempting a larger project with the larger blocks.

Brought the product as a gift for a friend that is learning to wood carve. He found the wood a good choice for the projects he was learning to attempt.

The bass wood in this kit was on the hard dry side. Not impossible to carve, just slightly tougher than expected. Spend a little more money for better quality and ease of carving.

Makes a good gift to the learning kid and beyond.

Made up templates for my Grandson to carve a chain out of one lf the 1 in x 1 in x 6 in pieces. The wood is smooth and free of surface defects. A great buy for my Grandson's initial foray into woodcarving. I hope to get larger pieces of Basswood for him in the future.
