Beautifully written and accurate translation from original.
Beautifully written, and true to the original German libretto. Very clear and well organized.

Great opera
This is a great opera...very family friendly. My 11 year old daughter has seen the DVD a number of times and as a treat I took her to see it live. My rule for her...she needs to read the libretto before I take her...she enjoys it much more this way.

Appalling translations of both libretto itself and stage directions.
Awfull translations of both libretto and purported stage directions--which themselves are hopelessly jumbled together (horrendous layout).

For German Opera Lover!
Bought this as a gift! It was very well received! If you have a friend who loves opera and knows German than I couldn't think of a better gift!

I was seeking a German-English libretto (without the score) for 'The Magic Flute' and this proved quite difficult to obtain. As last, I found this Schirmer edition, which enables me easily to follow productions/recordings in the original language.

Just what I required. The translation plus original score will make the opera so much easier to follow.

The print is so small that even with my new reading glasses on I am struggling. The print is so small that you cannot read the text and follow the opera on screen at the same time. To save space there are 2 columns of German on the left page facing 2 columns on English on the right page; so that you always have to look across an extra column for the translation, which is not always level with the source. The spoken word is mixed in heavily with the stage directions; no more so obvious an example than the first paragraph; All of Prince Tamino's opening words in amongst his and the three ladies stage directions. I am very surprised that none of the earlier reviewers have mentioned any of this
