They got the rubber compound right for flexibility and grip. Yeah, more expensive than the chinese ones but this actually works to unscrew pocket watch backs and bezels. Doesn't disappoint.

…more expensive than it used to be (almost twice the price). It’s also listed in its description as a five pack, but it is only one ball. The rubber seems thicker than the off brand balls on Amazon (which I’ve also purchased). The plus of that is that it will probably last much longer, but it also isn’t as flexible. So if you squeeze the ball into a point to really put pressure on the case back, it may not squeeze down to so fine an edge, if that makes sense. If you’ve opened up watches with a ball, you’ll know what I mean. It also had a weird grease on its surface when I got it, that I had to wipe off. I sprayed it will a little alcohol, and wiped it off and it was fine. It’s great, but the $12-14 price is more than the $6-8 price it used to be. If you want the name brand that will last forever, this is it.

I bought the Bergeon 8008 rubber ball to open screw back watch cases and it does the job very well. As long as the case back is not completely seized and both the back and the ball are clean and dry, it grips firmly and twists the back loose without any scratching or metal tools near the watch. I have used it on several different brands and sizes and it has worked on all of them so far. It is also handy for closing the case backs again, since you can apply even pressure and feel when everything is properly seated. For very tight or corroded backs you may still need a traditional case opener, but for routine battery changes and basic work this ball is much faster and safer. Overall, a simple, well made tool that belongs in any watch tinkerer’s kit.

This is a basic grippy rubber ball designed to remove screw-type watch backs. I don't see how it would be any different from a more expensive model by the original company that makes these (Bergeron). As others have pointed out, this comes only partially inflated and you will need to fully inflate it using a bike pump or equivalent with a needle adapter. This will open many watch backs once properly inflated, but don't expect miracles. A Rolex clone opened no problem, but a genuine Omega Seamaster wouldn't budge and required a watch back wrench. Also make sure your watch isn't a pry-back first, as this has no effect on those!
