I own five of these- and they all work great!
I have one of these in my bathroom, to aim at the mirrors while I shower (so no steam builds up on them), and then I aim it at my shower walls/tub to prevent mildew & mold from building up. I run it on the highest setting in there until all the moisture is gone from the shower stall/tub. That also cools off the bathroom a bit, after the heat of hot water running warms it up. It works like a charm. I went from having to clean the bathtub & shower tile weekly w/ Scrubbing Bubbles & Comet (not fun) to just giving it a quick blast of spray bleach once a month to keep it all white, pretty & sanitized. Having plenty of air circulation is the key to mildew prevention & management. They will possibly move a bit if placed on a slicker or curved surface, like a vanity top. But nothing extreme- just try to place it on as flat a surface as possible.I have the next one in my bedroom, to keep the room from getting too stuffy at night, and to provide white noise while I sleep. It works perfectly for those purposes. I have a quite a big bedroom, and sometimes a bigger fan is better (when I need to really cool the room down), but for general nightly use throughout the year it works great. I should mention that I've had each of these fans for over two years (some much longer), and they're all still running great. If they start making a rattling noise at all, invariably it means that they need to be cleaned. Compressed/canned air sprayed at the back of the fan gets nearly all of the dust out of the nooks & crannies. Be prepared to vacuum up afterwards, becauase as is true with all fans, dust is going to be attracted to these. My third fan is in the living room. We only have one window in that room, so the fan is necessary during spring & fall to circulate the small amount of air coming in from that window. We have it at a height that hits us right in the middle of where our furniture keeps us sitting. While the fan doesn't oscillate, for the cost of the item, it serves our purpose fine (the living room isn't that large, and we only have three big chairs). The fan does move up or down, so you can have it facing higher up or lower to the ground in any room. It depends, of course, on where you're keeping it & where you get warm, but the fan stays still even on carpeting while running. Even if knocked over, no big deal. This fan can take a lot of abuse, realistically. I'll be honest, a couple of times I've dropped it accidentally (while cleaning or whatever)- doesn't do it any harm. I guess because it is all plastic & there's no metal involved (a plus, in this case), it can take a licking & keep on ticking. I like that it has two settings, as the lower setting is all that's needed to circulate air on a cooler day. The higher setting is great when it's warmer. Obviously, it doesn't replace air-conditioning, but it lessens the time period each year that we have to have the A/C running. They use very little electricity- even w/ owning five of them, all of which are run regularly, there was never any jump on our electric bill from using them.My fourth is in the kitchen. I keep it on the counter, close enough to where I do food prep to keep me cool as I work. I run on the hot side, and unfortunately, I sweat w/ great ease (so ladylike....). I just make sure the air stays on me, and goes nowhere near the gas flame on the stovetop. It's a small enough fan that I can control the air coming towards me w/ great ease. These are lightweight, fit just about anywhere, and are not loud when running (much quieter than our central heating & air system, even). My fifth is in my home office/guest room. Not too much to say about that- same purpose. Guests love it.I'm back to buy one for my Mom's bedroom & one for my dining room. I don't need super-expensive fans for either room. I just need something easy to run, easy to turn off (even a child could work these) & easy to clean. The front grill can be removed easily with no tools (though it doesn't ever come off when running) & the blades are plastic- no possibility of cutting fingers or hands at all. The fans will get dusty on the front grill & blades, as will any fan, of course. The grill can be put in the top rack of the dishwasher, if it gets really grimy. Otherwise, a simple cloth will do just fine to wipe these off. I dust all of my fans every two weeks. Only the one in my kitchen ever gets dirty enough or greasy enough to need more than a dry cloth- or canned air-cleaning.All you have to do when you get these is attached the top part to the stand, no tools needed. Once you get the hang of it, it takes all of thirty seconds to assemble, if that. If I can do it, trust me, anyone can put it together. They don't come off the stand unless you purposely take it off, so I'd say they're incredibly safe. Love, love, love this brand- I own a space heater from them, too, and it's divine.

I am a fan
UPDATE 1/2024: I still have the original fan, but it's just a little noisy. I bought a second as a white noise fan for next to my bed and had it since fall 2019 and it is JUST starting to wear out (take a little shaking to get it spinning). Great fans, super durable and last hundred and hundred of hours of use. When this fan finally goes, I'll be getting another.Bought this fan because I commute to work on a bicycle and no one likes to be a sweaty mess. Been using it for over a month and it works extremely well, sometimes too much so. It sits about 18" from me and will drop the temp in my cube significantly, and so much so that I will usually run it on low or shut it off after a while.Plus it is great for drying my cycling clothes off throughout the day. I run this 5 days a week for 6-8 hours a day.It is quiet and moves quite a bit of air. I am on the phone all day and have never had an issue hearing a customer, or them hearing me. Great for your office cubicle and great for anyone who commutes by bike and wants to cool off after arriving at work.

It is excellent so far
I have been using the Lasko Personal Fan #2002W for over a year at work. It is excellent so far, quiet, dependable, I use it every day, and I would buy it again. The fan sits on my desk next to my phone. The tilt of the fan is adjustable up and down. For side-to-side adjustment you just turn the whole fan.The two speeds are enough for my office needs. It is very quiet when on low; it is a bit noisier, of course, when on high speed, but not at all objectionable--I don't think any of my office cubicle neighbors can hear it. Today's price of $20 is higher than what I paid over a year ago ($15 I think), and that would give me pause, but my wife says I think everything should cost $5 or less, so don't go by me.The main negative for me--though not enough to drop it to four stars instead of the five I gave it--is that the knob that controls the fan is a bit awkward to use one-handed. First, because the knob is on the back. Second, because the taper to the knob makes it slightly slippery for me. The fan moves forward and away from my hand as I try to turn the knob, so I usually use my little and ring fingers to grab the cord, then use my thumb and pointer finger to turn the knob, or I use two hands. That is less than half-a-star negative for me, so this fan remains five stars. Still, push buttons on the base of the fan at the front would be nice, but I am guessing that would make it less dependable and more expensive.

Puts out good air
This fan puts out good air but I have a problem with the control dial. It is inconveniently located at the rear of the fan and takes two hands to turn on. I use one hand to hold the fan neck the other hand to turn the dial. The first setting is high and have to turn again to reach low. (I would like low first and high the second option) A better design would be an on/off/speed control switch located on the base rather than the awkward control dial at the fan rear. I'm constantly on the phone and computer at work and freeing up two hands to operate this fan on my desk is inconvenient. A switch would only take one hand. The upside is the fan is very quiet and a nice size for a desk. The volume of air on low is great, high is more than I need.

A fan
I wasn't very impressed when I opened the packaging but now that I have it sitting by my desk, I just love it. It's a special little fan. Very quiet, nice breeze, doesn't rotate but that's fine for me. Very pleased with purchase.
