What possible use does the male/female adapter have? am i wrong that is just a 1 inch rigid extension cord? it seems pointless. what am i missing.

This is a bnc adapter. In terms of loss, the adapter has lower loss than the adapter cable. BNC male to female can connect two cables, which can better connect the radio to the antenna. Or connect a microphone, Scanner Antenna etc.

Is this a quick connect for a CB radio coax ? I take my radio home after each shift and am looking for a quick connect.

Without knowing your exact setup, I can't with any certainty say it is. But it can be used as a quick connect

BNC male to female adapters may look silly....but they are useful in a couple of situations. First, you have a very expensive piece of equipment where you have to plug, unplug the cables many times a day every day. You add this male female adapter and you wear out the adapter and not the expensive piece of equipment. Second, some high end oscilloscopes with active probe inputs have the BNC recessed and it can be very difficult to hook a different brand probe. With the male female adapter it makes it more possible.
